Whats this thing that IBM has that doubles your memory by compressing data before it gets to your memory modules?

HUH??? But I heard it only works for Intel systems?!?!?!?!? Thats lame, man. We could really use that....

uumm.. if it's Made by IBM, that doesn't mean jack about who can use it. It would be an interesting device in any motherboard, it would probably add a fair amount of theoretical bandwidth as well as extra space.

My only question is, WILL IT ADD MORE LATENCY?

It will add some bit of latency, but since it's a hardware based implementation, the latency will be minimal (hopefully).

And also......why will it work with RAMBUS only??

I thought that it was for SDRAM modules, and not RDRAM modules.

yea the IBM memory hardware compression device works only with PC100 and PC133 memory and intel chipsets. So far, only ServerWorks will be producing server motherboards using this technology.

I meant it's probably only worth it if you're paying $700/128MB of RDRAM. It's probably easier/cheaper to just add another DIMM if you have PC100/133.
