What's this T41 worth?

So my mom went to an IBM training class a few weeks ago and found out that she had won a new T41. It came in yesterday and I wrote down a few things. I can't seem to get the right configuration online, so I figured that AT might be able to help.

Here's what I was able to gather:

1.7gig Pentium M
Intel Centrino
209mhz
1gig RAM
60 gig HD
Integrated Bluetooth
Intel PRO wireless
Microsoft XP Pro SP1
Mobility Radeon 9000
14.1" screen

From these basic parts, does anybody know how much the laptop is worth roughly?

And at the same time, if you're in the market for a T41...LMK. ;) :D

whats's the type and models number should be on the bottom of the machine
or on the outside of the box if you haven't opened it yet.

well, is it a dothan, or a banias, my guess is a banias...i just paid $1700 for a 1.7 dothan, GB ram, 60gb 7200 rpm drive (makes a huge difference) and it has a 9700 pro 128MB/15" screen 6lbs...that help for comparisons sake? big factors are does it have dvd/cdrw assumed yes but you didnt list...and the rotational speed of the HD, go into bios and get the model #, you can tell the rpm from that.

Hope that helps!

Edit, retail on it is about $1900..sorry

huh, thanks. I'll try to get my sister to see if the model number is on it anywhere. I know it has a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive...don't know about the speed of the HD.

I was hoping this would be worth over $2K...that sucks. ah well, free is free.

Well, according to the IBM website, this is the only one that fits his description.
T41
Its around $2800. Add in a couple hundred since yours has 1gb of ram. Should bring you to about $3000.

Now...factor in the fact that dothan is out, the laptop is second-hand (even if you didnt use it at all yet), and that the T41 is pretty old. It should bring you to around 2500 or less, although (hopefully), I could be wrong.

It says "Type 2373" on the bottom and I just took some pictures for reference (and future sale). It does seem to be closer to $3000, which is good...but $2500 is still what I was expecting anyway. The chances of someone actually looking to use the IBM WebSphere software on there is slim to none anyway, which is unfortunate.

A little more research and it'll be in FS/FT.

edit: I think this link is just about perfect...1 gig, mobile Radeon 9000, Centrino, Bluetooth, same screen, same CPU...and the links to buy.com and whatnot are still current it seems. hmmmm.

yeah...i never said mine was an IBM, its a compal CL56, and i own the business. People are willing to pay premiums for IBM's i suppose, i just have never liked IBM's deisgn, and hate paying more and getting less. I'm not going to give out my website because i dont think the mod's would be too happy about that ;)

2373-???

It's those last three digits that are specific to config---if they even sell it under that SKU anymore.

Also, EPP discount program lists it for $2,991.15.

Man your mom is lucky. That's a nice chunk of change. If it were me, I'd keep it... nice machine. Hopefully work will get me that T40 soon... I'm dying with an A21m... old school.

wow, thanks! I totally didn't think to look there for laptops...

Thanks a bunch, that'll change things a little bit.

OK all. Here it the correct link to specs for the laptop.

It is a very nice configuration but keep in mind that the IBM "List Price" is hardly the price you would ever pay for it. It is the price it was first introduced. This specific model goes for $2,937 through IBM's SPP and quite a bit cheaper on that site that everybody sells on but this is still an excellent laptop.

yea you can't really compare ibm prices with other brands... ibm will always be higher for a machine with the same numbers.

Thank you...I think. :p Even thought it's not mine, it's easily seen what the difference between a high-end machine like this and your run of the mill Dell. And mind you, both my parents have Dells from EDS/GM all loaded to the gills...just a different breed.

Shareholder Purchase Program. If you own 1 share of IBM you can purchase their computers with a significant discount. Still not as good as the student discount though.

Personally i dont think the IBM lappy's are "high" quality, dell definetly isn't. again its all personal preference. and im not trying to trash your T41, a free lappy is a free lappy :) I just don't see whats so special about IBM's that everyone raves about, i've used them, both new and old and used new and old dell's, and they just dont seem to have anything special about them.

Im just partial to "off" brands i suppose, even though compal isnt that small, they make great products, and they look pretty unique too!

Looks nice, but the paintjob doesn't look too well done...does it scratch easily? And only 3 out of those 8 pictures work ;)

i was at work when i posted those pics, dunno whats wrong with em....and the paint job is VERY well done, the pictures just don't do it justice. if it were on a car, it'd probably be a 2 ft paintjob, all things considered very nice. doesnt scratch easy at all.
