XP pro. I thought it had to do with pop up blocking, but it doesn't happen all the time. It's like a door closing on squeeky hinges and it's so f--king annoying. I searched the comp for every .wav file on it and played all of them, and it's none of them.

If you have Kaspersky Pro, there's a sound that is exactly you describe when the AV updates itself.

It's not that...about 2/3 of the time I load up drudge (which has 2 popups) the sound makes. i do have sounds turned off for blocking, and it doesn't always make it. Otherpages it makes it too, and in fact sometimes when the computer is just sitting there and I'm doing nothing it still makes them. It's almost like it's some background security crap going on.

Damn you're dumb.

Don't you know a haunted computer when you see one?

I'm never switching to fire crap, so that's out of the question :)

it could be the 'start navigation' sound - it's more of an annoying click though.

check your sounds control panel and select 'no sounds'. if the problem goes away, you know it is one of the action sounds. find and change.
