My Echo has been making this sound that I don't recognize for a while. I want to say it sounds like rushing air through a pipe, or a continuous brushing sound. I'm pretty sure it's not literally the rushing air in the intake (too loud, doesn't vary much with engine revs, but it's hard to hear above idle). I suspect maybe a bad idler pulley or something.

Guesses?

Also, does my startup sound normal, or is there some piston slap going on? IT was cold, but not dead cold.

Sounds like an older Toyota to me. Doesn't sound like air to me, may be the audio quality of the video. Could be a pulley or squeaky belt.

FWIW my car sounds similar and I haven't had any problems with it late 90's camry. It is just getting old 😉
