What's this fixer worth?

Ford Taurus 1993. 80k miles IIRC.

When it was last driven in 2006, it ran ok, but occassionally the trransmission would 'lose traction'. It wouldn't quite pass smog in CA - it would leave the little area it needed to remain in in acceleration.

The body doesn't have rust but has some areas of faded paint, otherwise looks ok. After 4 years, a battery put in, the car started ok.

It has a crack in the windshield and the interior roof lining is drooping. What would be a fair price?

A junkyard before I knew it ran ok offered $160 including a tow, but it is now going to be sold to a 'fixer upper'.

I would say list it for $500 and take the first offer over $300.

Thanks. My uncle by marriage is interested in it for his son - they're millionares, so who knows why they're interested in a fixer like this - I'm determining a 'fair price' if I charge him or the market if that falls through.

first car? maybe so it could be beat and not have too much to worry about, after all it is a 17 year old car.

just bought a '92 SHO for $600 so I'd imagine in that range.

If the SHO runs and drives, that's a damn good price. This is just a regular Taurus I believe.

If the tranny is gone, I'm surprised the junkyard offered the OP 160$ honestly.

That's likely true - trying not to 'spoil' the kid.

I'm kinda surprised by going to this extreme though, a 17 year old car is going to be neither reliable, nor in any way crashworthy.

You'd be surprised. I got in a 45 mph front collision in a '93 ford escort and it took the hit surprisingly well. I walked away with a seatbelt bruise and a sore neck. The car was quite a bit shorter but my door still opened and closed fine so the passenger compartment wasn't really tweaked.

I'm not really surprised by that. Rather than say 'crashworthy' I should have used an extra dezen words or so regarding how unbelievably, ridiculously superior cars in the last 4-5 years are to something from 1993. It wouldn't stop me from owning or driving a 1993 vehicle, but it might stop me from giving one to my kid to drive.

I got $185 for a Chevy Celebrity from the junkyard buyers, 85, flattened tires, right side body collision damage front and back, rusted, they towed it. All but one junkyard offered under $100, though.

it has some issues but for the price i couldn't pass it up.

looks like the 60k routine maintenance was skipped as the valve covers were leaking and needed a battery. doing the work myself so it really isn't much of an issue.
