One thing I hear is that cell phones are cheap there and most of them are unreleased to the NA market. Is that true? If so, which ones should one buy?

Also, is computer hardware there cheaper too?

glasses, contacts, PDAs, mp3 players, laptops, LCD's, flash cards, etc... the culture is geared towards everyone buying things the day it comes out and throwing away things that are just a few months old.

If your looking for a cell phone... get the Sony Ericsson K800i, it costs around 400 dollars in the U.S.
You'll probably get it for a lot cheaper there.

Phones aren't that much cheaper. Ebay is the cheapest. Plus Chinese stores in the US give you cheap phones too, you just need to know where to go. BTW, Sony stuff is overpriced there. The XBR2 46" Bravia LCD is $189,000 NT, which is $5800 US. I bought mine for $3800 at BB and that was when it was retailed for $4300. Now you can easily get it at BB for ~$3200-$3300. So go figure.

Moreoever, electronics cheaper than BB anyday and Fry's, and the prices should be a few dollars above Newegg. It's not worth it. I'd rather buy it off the egg or ZZF.

Haha never mind then... scratch that... I thought phones were cheaper there... if your looking for a phone, I agree with DLeRium, the asian places that sell phones are always cheaper than the "real" T-Mobile or Cingular stores.

Here's what not to buy:

1.) Tech- I saw some crappy computers that would go for $400 here selling for about 10,000 yuan there(which is about $1,200 USD).

My dad also bought me a cellphone there and it was about $300 USD, not that nice. I hear Hong Kong is better if you want cell phone.

2.) Jewerly - Don't waste your money. Quality is poor and you will probably buy a dud. I bought my engagement ring there for about $400 and everyone told me I bought a zirconia that is worth probably 25 cents. My family told me to stop wearing it because it makes the family look poor.

But some stuff are Asia-exclusive only and won't be in the NA market. Wouldn't it be worth it to buy that stuff? I'm mainly looking for a new cell phone.

Too bad I'm not the one that's going to Taiwan. My friend's going there for a month.

How much do you think a Nokia N73 or SE K800i will cost in Taiwan? Looks like I'll be trying to get one of those..

This stacks up to only one thing: You are an easy mark.
