whats the worst work schedule you've ever had?

Since I'm an intern right now, my supervisors pretty much do with me what they will. When I was hired I was specced to work 7p-3:30a monday through friday. An example of my week this week:
Monday : 7pm - 7am
Tuesday: 5:30pm - 12am
Wednesday: 1pm - 6pm
Thursday: 7am - 6pm
Friday: 11am - 6pm

And it varies. For the next two weeks i'm working 7pm-7am straight every day.

Overtime is awesome but OMG.
 
We do a lot of field tests for work. I usually travel about 75 days/year, and we normally work bizarre, inconsistent hours.

I am currently on a test in idaho.

Arrive at hotel at 4am
Day 1: 9:30am - 10:30pm
Day 2: 5pm - 4am
Day 3: off
Day 4: 6pm - 8am
Leave for airport at 8am when done testing.

Holy eff. I'm pretty sure that would be against labour laws where I live. We have to have a minimum of 8 hours between shifts, and it looks like some of those were only 7-7.5 hours apart.

Also, that's an insane amount of overtime. I've barely been allowed to work any overtime in some of my student jobs even when I wanted to, since employers are too cheap to fork out the 1.5 times pay that's required.
 
10-12 hour workdays, 7-days a week, no holidays off for almost 2 months straight; on a ship. They subsequently made me take 1 month off 😛. So I spent that time touring NZ and Taiwan.

That was a killer science expedition. I did enjoy every moment of it though.
 
I have a 1 hour commute, and sometimes I get stuck working till 11, get home at midnight, and have to wake up at 5am to leave by 5:45am, since the morning commute takes 15minutes longer.

So like...

3-11, 3-11, 7-3, 3-11 3-11

So I get at most 4 hours of sleep or so, then have nothing to do for the next 24hours, then back to evenings.

I hate when I'm scheduled like that.
 
When I was a kid growing up in Minneapolis, they had winter work doing snow removal for the city. The pay was great but, the catch was you worked as long as it snowed. If you quit, you were ineligible for rehire til the next year. Well, it's pretty common to have a winter storm up there for 4 days straight...

Got any words of advice for someone who is going to be working at the big 4 relatively soon?
 
5 pm - 1 am, Friday/Saturday/Sunday + Tuesday/Wednesday... no consecutive days off and no social life whatsoever. I only did it for a couple months, though. my bosses hadn't realized that they scheduled me like that but they fixed it as soon as they were able to.

I hate the schedule I'm working now too... Saturday/Sunday/Monday/Tuesday, 8 am - 6 pm. the hours aren't so bad insofar as I can still go out and have a life after work, but if I want to take an overnight trip I've got to burn a vacation day or two (and it's basically impossible to get a coworker to cover a shift for me) and I can't go to family dinners at all since my wise and beautiful woman sister always insists on having them at like 4 pm.

I shouldn't complain because I knew what my schedule was going to be before I accepted this job, but it was "supposed" to be temporary. we're approaching the 1 year mark with no indication that my boss remembers the "temporary" remark.
 
Well, the hardest was 16 1/2 hour days with none off for many weeks. Was beyond exhausting. I was a total vegetable by the end. This got resolved when they had new people hired and trained.

But honestly it wasn't as annoying as getting frequent switchbacks. Nothing destroys a day like a switchback. I fixed this by refusing to work switchbacks more than once in a while.
 
The worst hours I did were 37.5hours in two days, plus 3 days for my normal working week (63 hours in total over 5 days). It took me the weekend to catch up on sleep.

Generally, I do 8.5 hour days, 5 days a week.
 
I worked 80 days in a row ending a couple months back. shudder...

a few of those were 16 hour days. Didnt really keep track.
 
Hynix Semiconductor. 12 hour nights, at least 4 days a week. And when they were trying to rush and increase production, 6 days a week.
I learned quickly that I am NOT nocturnal. Working all night sucks balls. Couldnt sleep properly during the day. Was miserable for a year and a half.
 
My current job. 80-110 hour weeks for months at a time, irregular hours, salaried, so no compensation for overtime. I'm at work now and have been working for the past 18 hours, since Friday morning. I've worked up to 50 hours straight. I haven't taken a vacation in 2 years. At least it's an office job and I don't need to be in the field or doing uncomfortable things.

That's one variation of a 4 turn schedule when production needs to run 24/7.

I worked that 7 day and a 5 day version for over 30 yrs.
 
The plant I worked at had three shift working 10 hours each.

If you worked 7am-5pm today you had to work 1pm-11pm then next day and 7pm to 5 am the next. You always went to work six hours later than you did the day before.

My days off were monday and friday.
 
On the cruise ship I worked 10 hours a day 7 days a week for 12 weeks straight.

They were splits shifts too. Dinner everyday and then either breakfast or lunch and some times all three.

The good thing was that there was no commute since you lived on the ship, plus no shopping or cooking and when you were off you could walk right off the ship and be in Hawaii.

One good thing about working that much is that you sleep good.
