Back when I was a student assistant computer tech for a CA state agency a couple years ago, I shared a cubicle with another student assistant computer tech. The cubicle was really roomy about 10'x10' and fit the two of us fine. I enjoyed the comradery (sp?) of sharing the cubicle and was pretty happy.

When our manager hired another student he was thrown in my cubicle and I was moved into my own cubicle directly adjacent to my old one. At first I thought it was a great thing, I got my own 10'x10' space all to my own. It turned out to be incredibly boring and kinda lonely. It also sucked becasue the two in the cubicle next to mine were always goofing off and I'd have to walk over to find out what was going on.

Anyway, we petitioned our manager to let us tear town the partition that separated the two cubicles and stuck it where my old entry was.... effectively making one giant 20'x10' cubicle. It was great. Almost like being back in the dorms again...

*sigh* Good times....

The sad part was the day I moved all my stuff from my old cubicle to my new one. All of my stuff barely filled a 4'x4' corner of my cubicle. It was really pathetic.

Do you think the boss would mind if I string up a bead curtain? :D

Actually, if you think cubicles are bad, imagine if there were NO partitions at all. Go see some old movies (1950s, 1960s)--the entire floor consisted of desks right up to each other!
