I'm not sure what the official name/location of it is. There's a splash screen while windows 2000 is loading up. Somewhere between the "loading" message box and the loading the desktop color+desktop picture, my OS now has an ugly tile of some picture. What is it and how do I change it?

Thanks, I don't think it's the boot logo though, it's after the boot logo's loading bar... I get the neptune blue background color for a little... loading personal settings, then this tiled picture, and then my actual background loads.

It also appears during shutdown. It's almost like it's something underneath both the background color and picture.

Is it a remnant after one of my friends changed the background?

[EDIT] Nevermind, found it... appears that my friend used the IE set background, I changed it back... but between active desktop and the background tab, I guess it conflicted. Problem was solved by resetting active desktop to a blank color.

You mean the wallpaper when no one's logged on?

It's either the All Users or the Default User's wallpaper.

Start regedt32.
Go to HKLM.
Registry menu, Load Hive.
Open C:\documents and settings\default user\ntuser.dat
call the key name "TEST"
Under test, go to control panel, desktop
Change the "Wallpaper" value to the file you want to use.
Go back up to TEST and from Registry menu, unload hive.
That should do it.
