as in difficulty of work. i can buy the service manual/schematics online and am more than capable. but unsure of what tools. dun think i could get hold of a scope or anything else exotic.

i have a sony 24" widescreen. the convergence is off in the left corners, and every once in a while the screen will 'twitch' and the rotation geometry will be off 🙁

CRT based monitors have hefty capacitors in them that can stun or possibly kill a person well after they have been switched off and isolated from the mains power. Unless you really, REALLY know what your doing, take it in to be serviced by a professional.

The entire tube is effectivly one big capacitor. It can kill you. Easily. Don't do it unless you know what you're doing.

Whatever tools you use for fixing electronics you will need in plastic, nonconductive versions. Make sure someone is close enough by to call 911 just in case you do shock yourself and your heart stops or you stop breathing. Better safe than dead.

Since you are asking (and therefore do not have experience), I strongly recommend shelling out the money to have it done for you.
