Whats the trick to install forceware drivers on Vista64?

runs through the install..reboot, nothing. still older ones there from MS, even run as admin...these are dowloaded directly from nvidias site. I have an xfx 8800gt...no nvidia control panel or advanced options etc...

anyone else see this?

Logged in as an administrator...just run them, reboot, done. Simple. Not sure what the problem is. (I know, not the most useful post ever)

i downloaded the xfx forceware from their site...those worked...the ones from nvidias site did not...go figure...this shit gets old.

Was it a beta driver?

Some beta drivers oddly don't install for me either. I'm not sure what causes it. I sweep the drivers every time, and some consistanty install properly (WHQLs, 174.74, some other betas) and some don't work at all (175.12). I end up with my video device saying it could not initialize in the device manager, code 43 I believe.

Something funny is going on.

I've installed i don't know how many different drivers from nV since running Vista x64 w/o issues getting them to install.

How are you removing the old ones?

Here's my method (not perfect, but works well):
-Remove drivers from add/remove programs.
-Run Driver Sweeper: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1655
-Manually delete anything nVidia in the registry (not really necessary, & NOT a good idea if you have an nForce chipset)
-reboot
-install new drivers

That's how I remove the old ones as well. Some beta drivers just do NOT install/work correctly on my setup.

174.74 works great, 175.12 did not. I didn't try 175.16 yet.

To further prove it's not about old drivers, I keep an image of Vista without drivers installed, and the same problematic nVidia drivers don't install even when other drivers were never present.

Maybe they weren't signed correctly? Maybe the INF has improper settings for my card? (7900GT)

Strange, I had no problem installing the 175.12 drivers on my Vista64 box.

Same, I can even just run installs over the old ones - probably not a good thing, but the dll files are updated anyway, so whatever.

I wasn't suggesting it affected everyone. The fact the driver even made it to beta stage means it worked for nVidia.

I'm thinking the issue affecting me may be affecting the topic creator as well, which is why I posted.
