What's The Story With The Dell 2007WFP?

Ok I've read as much as I can on the forums here, but I still can't find the answers I'm looking for.

1). If you buy a 2007WFP now, will it be a S-IPS?
2). What's the best revision to use?
3). Are there many issues with these panels?
4). How is the LCD for gaming, ghosting, lag, tearing, etc..?
5). If you need to check your panel, does this method below work for the latest ones?

Turn off the monitor.
Hold down "menu" and the "+" while powering up the monitor.
When monitor is fully powered and the input graphic disappears: release "menu" and "+" then press the "-" button

If all of these panels are still going through this lottery, then is it difficult to get a good S-IPS?

I bought one last week, so I'll attempt to answer your questions...

1) Mine is revision A04 and S-IPS. I am in England and I think all 2007WFPs over here are S-IPS. I cannot comment on other countries...
2) Newer the better I guess? Although I don't think there is much difference between A03 and A04.
3) None that I have personally uncovered with my revision. There was some talk of back-light bleeding with old revisions, but that was fixed a long time ago. It is certainly not present on mine, even without any tweaking.
4) My previous monitor was a 19" Viewsonic VX192... the 2007WFP blows it out of the water in every respect. I play lots of FPS games (FEAR, CoD, Half-Life 2, etc...) and also use my system as a Media Centre and I could not be happier.
5) Yes, that works on mine. The details at the top say: V1B22 - - RT803

I am very very happy with the 2007WFP, it is truly a very high-quality monitor. I ran my old and new monitor side-by-side while I was doing some testing (checking for dead-pixels, etc, there were none) and I couldn't believe how much better the colour and viewing angles were on the 2007WFP. One of the reasons I got rid of my Viewsonic was the horrible way it showed black/very dark colours in games, the 2007WFP is in a whole other league in this respect!

If you want to play the panel lottery, then look no further than the Dell 2007WFP. I just sold mine and it was an awesome monitor.

I dont think there is a better monitor for the money, IF you can get an S-IPS. If you get stuck with a PVA one, you will be very disappointed as the PVA panel is supposed to be of lower quality than most TNs.

Yeah, AFAIK the lottery is still in effect.

The good thing about it is, you can send it back to Dell as many times as you want till you get one. It's just a hassle.

Well I don't think you're going to tell Dell you're sending it back because you received a PVA when you wanted the IPS panel. 😉

Just tell them there are some stuck pixels, or the backlight bleeds.

Dont bother. For almost the same price, might as well go 24" or get the NEC 20WMGX2.

The 24" is a crappier panel, and I have a NEC 20WMGX2 that I'm returning for a refund, it has terrible tearing.

I love my 2007WFP. It's an original panel I purchased shortly after they first came out. It's S-IPS and I love everything about it except the minor color banding (really seen only when dealing with grayscale photo editing).
If I could be assured that I'd get another S-IPS panel that's just as good as this one if I bought another one today, I'd probably do it and run two of them. Really great panels and they were available for a nice cheap price from time to time. Looks like they still have a good price but I dunno what kinda panel they're using since they went through a few revisions.

S-IPS is especially good for not having any input lag (move your mouse, then your cursor reacts on screen a few milliseconds later... very frustrating in FPS gaming especially).
It has nice dark blacks and fast response rate makes movie watching pleasurable on it.

I've used it for watching movies (DVDs), gaming, and everyday Internet and word processing use. No complaints aside from wishing Dell would make up their mind and clarify what sort of panel they're using these days. =P I want nothing to do with PVA/MVA so I won't buy another one unless I know I'm getting a S-IPS panel that is just as good as this original revision one (or better if they got rid of the banding).
 
Well I had a NEC 20WMGX2, but it had some pretty bad screen tearing when gaming, so I returned it to NEC for a refund.

So I know what IPS panels are like, judging from this one. 😉

All I can say is I hope this Dell is better, without the tearing.

You did try v-sync to fix the tearing didnt you?

Yes, I tried just about everything I could think of.

SLI disabled, then physically removing one card, different driver versions, different SLI, and driver settings, and game settings, etc.. etc..., and nothing, nada, zilch, still always had tearing in games.

Oh well no biggie, on to the next lcd now. 😉

That's weird, never heard of anyone complaining about tearing that bad on the NEC.

Turn the monitor off, then hold down the Menu and + keys and turn it on, then press - to access the menu. You then look at the panel make/model to see what type it is.

Well I just got a crappy PVA panel, color really sucked, and it had one red dead pixel, and some pretty bad mouse lag when gaming.

Called Dell getting another sent out, hope this time I get a IPS.

typical of a *VA panel to have mouse lag. That's one of the nice things about S-IPS - no input lag. =/
 
Any updates OP?

I plan on getting one as well (guaranteed to be an A04 Rev S-IPS). Is this the best deal around?

Anyway, im on the same boat as well. I want to jump to 24inch but it seems that they use S-PVA type panels, which isnt what im looking for. 27inch is overkill for my PC, and im not looking for a TN no matter how good people saying they are because once viewing angles come into play (yes not just horizontally but vertically) it gets absolutely killed in that field.

I was considering the samsung 215TW, Hp LP2065 and the dell 2007fpw.

I know for certian that the HP LP2065 is a dual link, 4:3 monitor using a S-IPS panel but has anyone got one? i also want to know user experience from using the dell monitor.

LCD selection in New Zealand is horrible to say the least with over bloated prices. No NEC!! WHy!

that 215tw uses a pva panel and is suppose to have pretty bad input lag. i think theres a huge thread about it on hardforums.
