What's the story on the great hamster sickness?

My wife just asked me to post and ask if anyone heard about a bunch of kids getting sick from handling hamsters.
Did anyone hear anything of that nature?

I heard about it on the news. It is because of the poop. They arnt the cleanest animal. The kids play with them and the virus in there poop your kids get in contact with causing the kids to get sick. They claim you need to wash your hands before you play with them, do not touch your face or eyes while playign with them and aftwards to wash your hands right away.
