Huge oval burn mark on my right thigh just above and to the left of the knee.
My brother was finished cooking some bacon and splashed a lot of water into the pan to clean it. He left it on the fire for quite a while. A big, fat glob of bacon grease flew through the air and owned my leg. Instant sizzle.
We couldn't get it off fast enough because
1) I was 5 and he was 10
2) By the time I reacted to the pain, cried out, and he saw what happened, the skin was already cooking
3) It was burning bacon fat
4) Don't remember where my parents were, but it wasn't near the kitchen.
So eventually it stopped (didn't have any idea it could sizzle for that long, even with some effort to stop it). When we got the grease off, there was a big grey area. I still remember what it looked like because it looked fucking awesome. There was a ring of not as cooked, greyish-red flesh on the outside, and the center looked like diced steak.
Imagine what a blooming onion in those Outback Steakhouse commercials looks like. Now, make it flatter, grey, 1/4 an inch deep, and with veins running through. Surprisingly there was no bleeding involved, probably because the veins had been singed shut.
My parents had a good remedy, was really complex though. Had to prevent infection and try to heal the wound quickly. So I had to follow these steps every single morning:
1) Sprinkle salt on it
2) Go to school
I have more scars, but I really should study.
