I hope you don't tip a waitress, a doorman, valet boy, mailman, trashman, supermarket cashier, Home Depot employee, McDonald's employee, or anyone else that provides a service for you either.
Waitress: Yes, if she goes out of her way to make sure I'm taken care of. No, that does not include simply taking my order and delivering my food. It's the things in between which are not REQUIRED of her service that I will judge when I decide if I'm giving a gratuity.
Doorman: No, probably not. But I've never had one so I can't say for sure.
Valet: Never needed one. I'm a broke soldier from Canada, I don't go anywhere that requires a valet.
Mailman: Uh, no. Do people actually tip their mailman?
Trashman: Same question. Do people honestly tip these people?
Supermarket Cashier: I'll tip a few cents only because I don't want to carry that shit in my pocket.
Home Depot Employee: No, if I ask for something, it's his job, and his direct purpose of being there, to help me if such a requirement were to arise.
McDonalds: No. Just no.
What I will tip for, however, is:
Bartender: If I'm served with preference, or my tender remembers my drink of choice despite an overwhelming crowd, and serves me in a very timely manner, then yes, I will tip to ensure that service continues.
Servers: I will tip if I'm checked on often, and I find the service to be ABOVE AND BEYOND what is expected.
Key words. Above and beyond what is expected.
