Where does the music you listen to come from?

  • Local files on PC

  • Cloud service like Google Music after uploading files from PC

  • Cloud service with music I don't own on local PC or other physical media

  • Speaking of that: Physical media

  • Internet radio (Spotify, pandora, etc)

  • I should plan my polls more carefully next time.

I voted the Google Music option, but I also subscribe to Spotify. I use Google Music when Spotify doesn't have something in their library (which is often).

It's gotten more annoying lately with artists jumping ship off Spotify...their library keeps growing, but they're losing some of the top talent. Same thing with Netflix :(

in my car, I dont have a bluetooth adaptor, and my car has a 6 disk changer, and i dont like to fuss with plugging in the AUX connector, so I just play mp3 cds or regular audio cds. If Im at home, I ripped my CDs to mp3s long ago, so I just play them off of my NAS which is accessible to the whole house or amazon. Sometimes I'll watch bluray, Anathema & Porcupine tree have released a few amazing videos.

The services are victims of their popularity.

Netflix is doing a good job creating new content to fill the void, but Spotify isn't aggressive enough about signing artists.

MP3 files on my PC from CDs that I've ripped. I buy a new album maybe once a year or so and rip it when I do and just leave the disc in its case. I listen to music in my car occasionally and those are burned CDs or MP3 CDs from my music.

I used to use Pandora but only occasionally, and usually at work.

http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/hifi-components/cd-players/cdr-hd1500_black__u/

Had it for almost 10 years now and see no need to replace it. Stores CD's in original .cdr format, no compression or format conversion. Came with a 300GB drive, currently holding about 500 CD's, with room for at least 200 more. I have a spare 400GB and 500GB IDE drive in case the one in it ever fails. Great for my multi zone music system.

I don't want to deal with a server or computer just to listen to music.

Me - Spotify
Wife - Slacker

She doesn't like the idea of making playlists in Spotify, and I don't blame her. It's a real pain in the ass and annoying.

About 15 years ago I ripped all of our CDs and put them in a box. About 5 years after that was the last time I listened to any of the ripped songs. I haven't seen the box of CDs since we moved into the house.

Illegal MP3 downloads from the past 20 years, then auto compared/added to Amazon and Google Music.

You poor thing.
Sorry, I meant .CDA, which is what windows displays them as. They don't really have a file system, they have CD-DA tracks. The CDR-HD1500 keeps them as original.

I don't know that there's a specific advantage to this versus .WAV/.FLAC/.ISO. Nice unit, for those whom it fits their lifestyle :)

Google Music (before that, Spotify)

Too convenient to find a new artist and add it to a playlist and download it to your phone for working out and bluetoothing it to the car.
