Hi All
My daughters computer will not fire up at all. The computer makes no sound at all after I push the power button. Usually I have extra major componates of a computer lying around but today I dont have any cpu's or mobos.

So I was hoping that someone would have a pretty good guess as to what the problem could be :) I'll just got out and get it today (hopefully) anyway, I hope its just the cpu since thats a lot easier to change out then the frigg'n mobo.

I did try the video card and PS but the change proved nothing. I think this happened with a series of power-dips hit my block lat wek :( as I don't have a power surge on my
daughters computer but that will change today.

Thanks

Before I started swapping mobos/cpus I'd make sure both the powersupplies you used actually work. Connect a paper clip from a green cable to a black cable on the psu connector and make sure it turns on.

The power dips could have possibly fried something; however, as suggested above -- before you jump to conclusions make sure the psu's that you tried all work. It could save you a lot of time. Also make sure all the connections are firmly in (power, ram, expansion cards, etc...). Since it just stopped working it would lead me to believe something actually did fry, as connectors usually don't just come out of place (in most cases). It's about 10x harder to diagnose a problem (which would already be puzzling if seen in person) over the internet with only a small amount of info. Hope you get everything working properly soon though!

To check your P/S, unplug the connector from the motherboard and unplug the power line from the rear of the P/S. Examine the connector that attaches to the motherboard - you will find ONE green wire. Make a jumper from a paper clip and insert one end into the plug that attaches to this green wire, the other end of the jumper into a plug that attaches to a black wire (the connecotr is NOT plugged into the motherboard). Now plug the power cord into the back of the P/s. If your P/S is OK, it should fire up. If it doesn't, then you have an opportunity to acquire that 400 watt dandy that you have been considering for a while.
