I'm buying a tablet for entertainment purposes. What's the best **REMOVED** out there?

A Surface Pro 3 is probably the most pimped out tablet out there right now.

Did you want an Android or Apple tablet instead?

The Surface Pro 3 has issues with heavy throttling and poor color calibration, which makes it harder to recommend over the Lenovo Yoga 2/3. The Yoga has a much better display. If only the Yoga had a pen, it would be perfect.

Media consumption tablet? Serious answer? Probably the iPad Air 2. The thing is crazy fast for an ARM device.

Either that or the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5'' if you want Android. Though it doesn't support Lollipop yet. Has a gorgeous AMOLED screen.

iPad Air 2. I can't do android due to the lag issue with their UI. It's always been there on any device I've used and it drives me absolutely nuts. The swipes between screens etc have a very small but noticible lag. From what I've read it is because Android devices keep processing things in the background while ios stops background processing and devotes itself fully to the UI when you touch the screen.

The Surface Pro 3 is very nice, that would be my second recommendation.

For entertainment? Nothing better than an iPad Air 2 out there right now. Unless you have a strong opinion about getting an android device, I can't really recommend one. Surface pro 3 if you're looking for the ultimate tablet, but it honestly not as good as the iPad as an entertainment device. I mean it can do it, but its heavier, has worse battery life, etc.

If you are buying a tablet purely for media consumption the iPad is a bad choice as its native aspect ratio means you will have black bars on nearly all TV shows and even bigger black bars on movies giving you a decrease in viewable area.

Your choice may also be influenced by the format that you store your media in, low end android devices may not have the grunt to playback 1080p and my iPad refuses to play some of my encodes.

I'm gonna go with the Sony Z3 compact, the Nexus 9, or the iPad Mini (retina).

If you actually judge the Surface Pro as a tablet, you find it's heavy, REALLY thick, and just not as intuitive and "made for touch" as Android or iOS.

It depends on how much of that consumption involves movies. If it's also for games, music and the web, then the iPad is just dandy. I never quite get why so many Android tablet makers go 16:9... it's great if all you do is watch Netflix, but it hurts when you want to do anything in portrait mode. To me, the big allure of a tablet is its flexibility; you just have to rotate it to do something different.
