Office Depot
3 Weeks
Keystone at the Crossing in Indianapolis, IN

One of the better jobs I've had. The customers liked me, the workers liked me, the boss liked me. I got 4 job offers (this was back in the tech boom era). I had to quit because I moved. My roomate and I had a bad falling out.

I worked in a nursing home for one day. It was too depressing to go back.

For real. My mom was in a nursing home when I was in High School. It was like walking into hell. Urine smell no matter how much they cleaned, the unending screams of the damned...

I refuse to step foot in one again.

I work four hours in a poorly ventilated printing shop, the boss was a jerk and the fumes from the organic solvents and paints had to be carcinogenic.

I had a job for 8 hrs glueing election advertisement posters on signs to be put up at street lights and such. I quit right after breakfast break but had to work until the end of the day because of 1 day cancellation period...

it was gruesome, seeing and glueing 1500 times the same fvcking face of a politician I wasnt supporting. Some friends of mine continued that job for 2 weeks *shudder*

As a teenager, I worked 1 day on a firetrail crew. This was a real "swinging" job. We had to cut a path 3' wide to mineral soil around a clearcut. We only had to do the sides where a Cat. COULD NOT go. This means STEEP, our tools were axes, rakes and pulaskis. (hoe on one side axe on the other). Good thing I was young and pretty good shape, 'cuz doin that would kill me now (~35 yrs later!).

One day...I was in highschool and was a dishwasher @ a local restaurant. The manager came over said I was doing a great job. Then he proceeded to put his arm around me!! I said WTF !!! I am not working for no flaming S.O.B. like that!!

You know those 20lb propane tanks for grills, etc? We would get in a few thousand of them every night. I worked the graveyard shift. Spray off/scrub off dirt/old labels ,etc. Dry, and then sand/steel blast them. Paint them and breath in a lot of fumes. Re-label them, Re-fill them.... x about 4,000-5,000 a night. Minimum wage, 2001. This was the summer after I had interned at Compaq and been paid 17/hr..... so after about 3 days I decided to startup a computer building business instead for that summer... much easier 🙂

Doing Inventory for a Store. When they locked the doors behind me I immediately told them that I wanted out. I think I lasted 15 minutes. I also worked for Sony for an hour as a Temp. We were all taken down to a Basement that had Steel Doors, no windows and Security Guards. I needed to go to my car to get something and I just got in it and drove off.

i quit my first day working at this ceramic store. i was 13, and they had me molding ceramic statues in a poorly ventilated basement with dust everywhere, the owner's 40 year old retarded son working across from me, and 50's music playing on the radio all day. Not to mention the fact that every time i took the rubber bands of one of the molds i woul get slapped by them in the hand. I hated that f*cking job.

I lasted one day as a office worker (temp job) for a construction company when I was 16. They needed somebody to do all their menial office tasks and fix their computers. No problem, except there was nobody there to train me on the job. There was nobody near my age, either. On top of that, the "office" was a trailer and NOT a smoke free environment. I think I could have lasted longer, but when the folks couldn't stop lighting up, I decided that afternoon that I'd never go back.

the record I have heard of is one of my buddies worked at Perkins. Started at 3:00, hated it, asked for a break at 4:30, and never came back. haha

I worked for "ms freshleys" a big offbrand pastry chain (vending machine and gas station off brand twinkies, etc.)

For one day, 12 hour shift overnight with no AC. 10 trucks (18 wheelers) came in with 1 type of product on each, we had to unload them to the floor, and then reload them on 10 other trucks (18 wheelers)but this time with a various mix of product. The bad thing? 12 hour shift, you can't leave the grounds even on lunch, 7 bucks an hour, stacks of open trays with snackcakes on them (This was the absolute worst, they were as tall as the trailers and open, we had dollys to use on them that had extra plates welded on them. It was not uncommon to tip over ~10 stacks a night of stuff and have to get down and pick every single thing up.)

Near the end of the night i was sitting waiting on the team leader to flag racks when this prick walks up and tries to pretend he's a manager. "are you sick?" Me: "No, just waiting on dude" prick:"well grab a broom or something"

So i left.

The other 1 day job i can remember is Baywatch came through town (2001 i think?) to do a model search at my college, i had quit school and was temping so they hired me to setup the contest area at a local party apartment complex. 🙂

Worked 3weeks at BBY in computer sales. Really did not agree with supervisor to push PSP and accessories to people who didn't need them. Called in sick and never went back.

Maybe a month at a brokerage firm. Went through all the training, got licensed and everything, but when it was time to do cold calls etc. I just could not stand it. They said I was good at the sales pitch, but I was just incredibly uncomfortable with it. There were other things about the job that I really did not like either.

Radioshack... 4 months. They paid you minimum wage, and you had to know a bunch of stuff to be good at working there (I shoulda got paid a lot more for my knowledge)... I then got a new job.

Worked at a gas station attendant for two weeks. It was okay, but the owner/boss was a dick and when money came up missing from the register, he accused me. I quit on the spot, and the money kept disappearing for several weeks. Ironically, this same guy bought my Dad's shop about 5 years later and he wanted to keep me on as a mechanic. I told him no fvcking way in hell would I ever work for him. Good thing too, it got me started on my current career.

Also, I sold copiers for a short while after my Dad sold his shop. You watched sales videos or were out cold calling. It sucked bad. I think I lasted a month or so, then went to UPS.
