I always seem to get sniped on ebay. I am bidding on something and want to win it really bad, so I am going to snipe back I guess. In doing an initial search, there are many many different services and programs that do this function. But, which is the best? What do you guys recommend? Thanks!

Here is the secret:
There is no "winning" and "losing." All there is is "Naming the maximum you are willing to pay for the item." If you do that, you cannot "lose." If someone outbids you, they overpaid. If you don't get outbid, you got a good deal.

Sniping won't do a damn thing for you if someone else is willing to pay more.

If you really, really, really want an item, then place your bid high enough. Even snipers won't go beyond a certain amount. Or... get online and place a bid on your own before it ends, even if someone tries to snipe, you will outsnipe them. Even if no one is trying to snipe you, your initial bid will only go up like 0.50 or so.

correct

just bid the max amount you want to pay. if you win with anything less than your max then you got a good deal.

Put in your highest bid (and preferably ONLY bid) with about 5 seconds to go......you'll know if you won quickly and no stressing over something you want. There are almost always sharks waiting to put in a bid in the last few seconds of any popular item. Just sucks if you cant be near the computer when an item comes up!

I use auction sentry myself...i think the only way is to set a price in ur head and keep a good watch on the auction especially in its closing minutes and contrantly refreshing when it gets down to seconds with a window ready to put in a "higher" bid as necessary. Sniping seem to be the way to go if you have the time and really want something but if ur dead set on only paying so much might as well go with the bid on whatever wait and see approach

Just remember my advice. You can snipe with a fraction of a second left, but if your bid is not high enough, you still will not win. Don't be lured into a false sense of security.

To be honest, I use sniping programs, but not to help me win, but to help myself avoid the temptation of going back at the end of the auction and raising my bid little by little until I have suddenly spent 10% more than I originally decided the item was worth just for the thrill of winning.

Be careful, grasshopper. And good luck with the auction.

ding ding ding ding! Winner!
If f'in ebay would simply go to a format that if there is a bid in the final seconds, they extend the aution by 1 minute, sniping would be eliminated. It'd make the whole thing a lot fairer.
