What's the secret behind 7 Pounds?

I saw the trailer and it looked intriguing. I tried coming up with some ending scenes, but could still not pinpoint something that may fit the movie. I thought he was a former drug dealer who sold 7 pounds of crack and was willing to give away the money, but I don't think that fits quite well. For the heck of it, I just did a little searching and found out a likely scenario for the ending.

Source
The M. Night Shyamalan ending
Premise: Ben is really a ghost.

Chances: None. As Ms. Dawson said during the Oprah Winfrey interview, she thought Seven Pounds was going to "have some weird M. Night Shayamlan ending," but was happy to be proven wrong. Sounds like somebody didn't like The Happening.

The Hancock ending
Premise: Ben is really a superhuman immortal that has been married to Charlize Theron for the past 3000 years.

Chances: None. However, that is the way Hancock actually ended. For real. And the scary thing is... it actually worked! Just file this under further proof that Will Smith can do no wrong.

The likely ending
Premise: OK, deep breath! Ben killed seven people earlier in his life (we'll assume while drunk driving). As punishment, he decides to commit suicide and donate his organs to seven people who really need them. However after he falls in love with Emily, he has second thoughts about going through with the plan. Ben tells Emily his true motivations and she predictably freaks and dumps him. Crestfallen, he realizes the best way to show Emily that he truly loves her is by giving away his heart. (In this case, literally.) Ben dies, allowing Emily to live. Cue the waterworks and poignant Rosario Dawson voiceover!

Chances: Very high. We don't mean to toot our own horns, but we think this scenario seems incredibly plausible.

"Seven Pounds" refers to seven astronauts that were killed when the shuttle came back and exploded in the atmosphere. Smith's character was a NASA engineer who blames himself. He helps out 7 random people the best way he can, including donating organs to the people that need them. The film ends with him killing himself.

"The Human Soul Weighs Seven Pounds"

The movie, at the most basic level, will be about a man who struggles being a 'good man', but eventually has a change of heart and does things to help others, possibly just to make it so he can feel better about himself.

What will actually happen in the movie? I have no clue. The previews so far have been confusing me. One makes it look like a heartfelt drama, and another I saw recently makes it look like a thriller, with the "whoever moves into this house, do not ever try and contact me" and some other weird stuff.

Oh, and the Hancock ending. I liked the movie. Nothing award-winning, but it was an enjoyable movie. There are many movies that can be critically hated, but I still enjoyed. I don't critique movies unless they are terrible or are the type of movies that are looking for awards. If it's an action movie, I just sit back and try to enjoy it. Hancock, I went into it thinking it could be pretty bad - the whole generic superhero thing kind of turned me off. But it played through pretty damn well imho.
And the whole mythology-inspired superhero thing is pretty cool imho. Made them out to be special people kind of grounded in the 'reality' of famous literary works.

Since you're the one who is worried about spoilers the onus is on you. And since you thought it was somone else's responsibility to warn you of spoilers and they didn't-now you know the plot. Take responsibility for yourself. loser.

You thought a Will Smith movie looked intriguing?

I think the movie itself beat him to the punch.

Not that I find he's a bad actor, it's just the fact he won't accept a script that someone hasn't unleashed a big wet bowel movement on.
