unquestionably the saddest song ever in existence is "Amazing grace" played on bagpipes. It is undisputable and while I agree with most of these songs on here, NOTHING holds a candle to amazing grace on bagpipes....seriously.

Yep, if you've ever been associated with a divorce or the breakup of a long relationship, this song will rip your heart out and $hit on it.

Haha! Bagpipes are the worst instrument ever invented.

Fix You by Coldplay? Isn't that song about having a child, and the responsibilities that go with that?

How about "Run", but Snow Patrol

I've heard the song in the past couple months on the radio, but the girl beat the song to it.

Reminds me of:

Don't Know What You Got (Till it's Gone) - Cinderella

I can?t tell ya baby what went wrong
I can?t make you feel what you felt so long ago
I?ll let it show
I can?t give you back what?s been hurt
Heartaches come and go and all that?s left are the words
I can?t let go
If we take some time to think it over baby
Take some time, let me know
If you really want to go

Don?t know what you got till it?s gone
Don?t know what it is I did so wrong
Now I know what I got
It?s just this song
And it ain?t easy to get back
Takes so long

I can?t feel the things that cause you pain
I can?t clear my heart of your love it falls like rain
Ain?t the same
I hear you calling far away
Tearing through my soul I just can?t take another day
Who?s to blame
If we take some time to think it over baby
Take some time let me know
If you really wanna go

Don?t know what you got till it?s gone
Don?t know what it is I did so wrong
Now I know what I got
It?s just this song
And it ain?t easy to get back
Takes so long

Do you wanna see me beggin? baby
Can?t you give me just one more day
Can?t you see my heart?s been draggin? lately
I?ve been lookin? for the words to say

Don?t know what you got till it?s gone
Don?t know what it is I did so wrong
Now I know what I got
It?s just this song
And it ain?t easy to get back
Takes so long

Don?t know what you got till it?s gone no
Don?t know what it is I did so wrong
Now I know what I got
It?s just this song
And it ain?t easy to get back
Takes so long

This is a very sad power ballad.

The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work

From what I've read Richard Ashcroft wrote it for someone dying of cancer

Page and Plant "Blue Train" from Walking Into Clarksdale"

Also,
Pearl Jam- "I'm still here" kind of rare

I'm Still Here

she said to me, over the phone
she wanted to see other people
i thought, "well then, look around, they're everywhere"
said that she was confused...
i thought, "darling, join the club"
24 years old, mid-life crisis
nowadays hits you when you're young
i hung up, she called back, i hung up again
the process had already started
at least it happened quick
i swear, i died inside that night
my friend, he called
i didn't mention a thing
the last thing he said was, "be sound"
sound...
i contemplated an awful thing, i hate to admit
i just thought those would be such appropriate last words
but i'm still here
and small
so small.. how could this struggle seem so big?
so big...
while the palms in the breeze still blow green
and the waves in the sea still absolute blue
but the horror
every single thing i see is a reminder of her
never thought i'd curse the day i met her
and since she's gone and wouldn't hear
who would care? what good would that do?
but i'm still here
so i imagine in a month...or 12
i'l be somewhere having a drink
laughing at a stupid joke
or just another stupid thing
and i can see myself stopping short
drifting out of the present
sucked by the undertow and pulled out deep
and there i am, standing
wet grass and white headstones all in rows
and in the distance there's one, off on its own
so i stop, kneel
my new home...
and i picture a sober awakening, a re-entry into this little bar scene
sip my drink til the ice hits my lip
order another round
and that's it for now
sorry
never been too good at happy endings...

song ( P ) Pronunciation Key (sông, sng)
n.
Music.
A brief composition written or adapted for singing.
The act or art of singing: broke into song.
A distinctive or characteristic sound made by an animal, such as a bird or an insect.

Poetry; verse.
A lyric poem or ballad.

So a composition written for singing without any real lyrics? If you can interpret 'sad' as 'pathetic' in this case just about any Rap/R&B/Country/Pop 'song' fits that description.

Bluer Than Blue

After you go, I can catch up on my reading
After you go, I'll have a lot more time for sleeping
And when you're gone, looks like things are gonna be a lot easier
Life will be a breeze, you know
I really should be glad

But I'm bluer than blue, sadder than sad
You're the only light this empty room has ever had
Life without you is gonna be bluer than blue

After you go, I'll have a lot more room in my closet
After you go, I'll stay out all night long if I feel like it
And when you're gone, I can run through the house screaming
And no one will ever hear me
I really should be glad

But I'm bluer than blue, sadder than sad
You're the only light this empty room has ever had
Life without you is gonna be bluer than blue

I don't have to miss no TV shows
I can start my whole life over
Change the numbers on my telephone
But the nights will sure be colder

And I'm bluer than blue, sadder than sad
You're the only light this empty room has ever had
Life without you is gonna be bluer than blue
Bluer than blue
Bluer than blue
