What's the quietest CPU fan I can get away with (T-Bird 1.13GHz, Alpha 6035)?

I've determined that the CPU fan is the loudest offender in my system, and I'd like to replace it with something *much* quieter.

My system:

Fong Kai FK603 case
Enermax Whisper 350W PSU
IWill KK266
256MB Crucial RAM
AMD TBird 1.13GHz (not o'ced)
Alpha 6035 with T&T Fan
WD WD400BB HD
Radeon LE (slightly o'ced)
Teac CDROM
Sony CDRW

I was looking at the ADDA fans at phamcomputer, but they told me that their quietest 60mm fan might not be powerful enough to cool the 1.13GHz CPU. Is that likely to be true?

Other options for CPU fan that I can think of:

- 60mm Panaflo
- Fan adapter (are these expensive?) and put a 80mm Panaflo on it

Any suggestions/comments?

TIA!

I just bought an Hedgehog-heatsink with a Pabst 612NGML 15 cfm/19dB. Im currently running that on 7 V on my 1200 Tbird. Casetemp 27 C and CPU in idle mode 39/full load 52. Pretty descent concering it doesnt make any noise at all!

Weezer.. Where did you get the Papst fan at? Did you ever run it at the full 12 volts? Was it quiet? 15cfm is kind of low, isn't it?

TIA,

Sal

Check out this tech article on many common fans. Try listening to the mp3's so that you have a feel on what you will hear. You can also buy the fans listed in the tech article on the same site. Good luck!

Seems to me from looking at the specs that the Everflow F126025BH fan on the Thermaltake Volcano is one heck of a fan- 36 CFM with only 31.5 dbA noise- almost the same airflow as the Delta black label (37.6 CFM) but with much lower noise (46.5 dbA). Does anyone know where I could purchase the fan only? I have only found it as part of the Volcano HSF.
