What's the point of wireless charging?

I'm looking forward to it in my new phone, specifically to make it easier to use in the car (trying to make the switch from my Garmin GPS to only using my cellphone + waze unless I'm planning on traveling to an area with spotty data reception)

cable up the qi dock to my car's USB port, running/hiding the cables nicely, and then just pop my phone in/out of the dock as needed without needing to unplug it or fuss with cables.

1) Home
2) Work

If your phone can't last in between, re-evaluate app usage? 😛

idk, hour-long drive while streaming music via bluetooth, using GPS, and running on full-brightness (or 3-6 hours if you're talking road trip)?

The point is setting the handset down and not having to worry about anything else. No futzing with a cord. Just grab and go.

Looking forward to a phone that can handle simple computing 100% wireless. Qi, Miracast, Wifi, Blootooth... Would be awesome for "light" office workers. New intel chips + Windows 10, Hmmm...

So... Three? Plus, you can get cheap qi chargers on ebay for like $5 each.

What kind of phone are you using that dies in an hour? If I'm driving, I'll just use a regular car charger - not like I am constantly getting up and walking away or anything.

doesn't die in an hour, but it can take a good chunk out of the phone especially given that I'm usually walking around with it in my pocket when I get home and don't return it to the charger until bedtime.... or I'm driving to a friend's house/party/bar/etc where I'm not going to have access to another charger.

it's just one less wire to worry about, especially when a commute to/from work may involve multiple stops (eg: leave my house, drive to the butcher, stop for coffee, go to the grocery store on my way home, maybe make a quick Costco run if we need anything from there since it's close to my office)

wireless charging isn't a mandatory feature or anything, but it's certainly nice to have.

Well, screen on, GPS on, and music streaming over bluetooth (local or cellular?)... that will hit any battery quite hard. Some might be able to do that and then go about a day if they don't use their phone that much and still have battery when they get home, but, I certainly don't like to take that challenge.

But, yep, I'll use a standard micro-usb car charger for my Z3V. I've contemplated a qi charger to put in the top section of the center console, would be a perfect spot for the phone out of the way. Use some foam and cutout a section, and bam, the phone won't slide around the small compartment and always stay squared up on the Qi charger.
Otherwise, only using USB in the car, that doesn't bother me. That's not opening the charging port cover that often.

Shading from sunlight helps a lot, but it would also be good to devise a way to get cool air blowing over the phone...especially since you have it insulated.

Simultaneous GPS + constant Bluetooth music streaming + charging = lots of waste heat. Once it gets hot, it gets less efficient, which generates even more heat (meltdown!). No matter which phone I use, if I let a busy phone get exposed to a little direct sunlight (even while driving in the winter), it goes into meltdown-mode. I'm always aware of this and taking steps to avoid it. I make sure my hot air vents don't blow on the phone, but the sun can't be controlled!

Found it from this video, just wish Amazon would sell it again.

At least I was able to score the Tylt for 50% off.

Bah, I paid $60 for mine, but it did have free shipping from Verizon. It was the same price or higher everywhere else on the net, and the free shipping was Overnight! Beats the $4 or so one-day would cost through my Amazon Prime membership. I don't even care, really... I love the damn thing.
But I might just trade it in a heartbeat for that other one. I like the more vertical angle and it has its own flashy style. Both that and the Tylt were lightyears ahead what seemed like all other models, in terms of design. The Tylt takes a decent amount of desk/dresser space, it better look good.

I actually forgot I had ordered the Tylt, sort of. It took about 2 months to arrive. I received a package and had no idea what it was until I opened it and went oh yeah I did order that. Now I'm not sure whether to keep it return it with a nasty note.
