whats the point of playstation home?

i concur and have not used it since my initial run through. it just seems like an unnecessary middle man.

i have a feeling it's going to be in beta stages longer than duke nukem forever has been in development for.

Actually, it hasn't been a waste of money. It made more money in microtransactions from users playing dolly dress-up with their avatars in the first four days then their video download service made in its first week. Link.

That is your point of Home. To provide a service to advertise and sell stuff.

I haven't tried it yet, but everything I've read makes it seem as pointless and stupid as Second Life. Except SL lets the furries get together for their teddybear picnics, so I guess Home is even more useless.

I'm sure all you achievement freaks will be all over Home when Sony signs up more games to participate in unlockable items for Home. Home is like achievement with actual items you can mess with instead of just swinging your epeen w/ points.

The problem I see with that is that you have to spend time parading around inside Home to show off your Batman "50 batarang kills" cape to the other fellas. That's time you could be spending playing games instead . . . or neffing here 🙂

That, and some people like the act of completing the challenges for achievements or trophies more than the worthless rewards they bring. I don't like video games because I enjoy watching credits, I like the game-playing part.

I still think the best kinds of achievements / trophies are the ones that unlock in-game content, like perks, weapons, armor, etc.

nothing has been longer than duke nukem forever... nothing.

Home is what happens when a marketing team that knows little about games and game consoles gets involved in game/GUI development, and hypes their product to no end. You get something half-baked that doesn't really do anything it sets out to do well.

There are some good ideas (minigames, party game launching or watching trailers), but there are some awful ones too (waiting in line to play arcade and bowling alley games, bad Second Life clone).

I like home. I spend three hours in it last night, mostly waiting for stuff to download but while stuff is downloading I play pool or chess.

lol yeah, seems like a huge waste of time...but i guess if you have nothing better to do, it might be a way to kill time.

It's useless for a gamer. Kids may enjoy it, though.

The way it was described, I was imagining that Home would be integrated into the XMB. The way it is now, it's a separate experience. I don't like having to 'load' Home, but then again, I can't imagine using it ever again. From what I've seen of Second Life, Home appears to be a clone.

Yeah, it would have been much cooler if they had integrated it into the XMB and allowed us to browse the store while in home.

The purpose of Home in 6 easy steps:

1. Make attractive female avatar.
2. Make ugliest male avatar possible.
3. Take girl avatar and dance around guys while saying suggestive things.
4. After the guys really get into it, type in "IT'S A TRAP!"
5. Quickly switch to your ugly male avatar, which keeps dancing.
6. Enjoy the reactions of the males.

Haha, I have to do that.

yup, its useless to have to load up a different app to check it out...it should be somethng thats easy to access and seamless within the playstation environment which is the XMB.
