What's the point of fake facebook profiles?

Every once in a while I get a friend request of some random person with what appears to be a fake profile. They usually have a very small profile, with a handful of friends from random places all over. No mutual friends.

What is the point of these? Is it just someone trying to get access to my profile or what?
 
I've never gotten that through Facebook but I have through MySpace. When I go to look at their profile, they have like Tom and a couple of other suckers, and their About Me reads something like "Check out my cool pictures/webcam!". Lame ass spammers.

One of the reasons why i don't like MySpace.
