Whatever happen to Netscape?

The company? Bought by AOL. The browser? Dead. But they started the Mozilla project with the source from Navigator years ago, so Netscape is essentially the grandfather of Firefox.

I remember when Mozilla (before it was called Firefox) had the netscape logo in it at some point. Then they made firefox but still had mozilla but eventually they phased out Mozilla. wow feels like that was not long ago, but it's been quite a few years now.

Mozilla is a non-profit organization afaik and they do it "because they can". They have an arrangement with Google to make money.

Microsoft does it because they want to control the "web user" market. If you haven't noticed, IE is not completely standards-compliant and does not follow established web standards to the T.

Google released chrome, which purported "enhanced AJAX capabilities" because Google believes that "cloud computing" is the way of the future and wants to gain a foothold now.
