what's the point of bluetooth?

i have that now with my logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. the receiver is under my desk and it works fine.

The point was supposed to be that you could buy a bluetooth KB, mouse, whatever and have it work on any pc, using its Bluetooth transmitter/receiver. A standard. However, Bluetooth spec is all over the place in reality and it's hard to get devices to work with receivers from other manufacturers, drivers aren't standardizd, etc.
 

- no line of sight needed
- very low power
- no stupid IR window on your notebook
- works with many devices
- secure with PKI

yea ericsson was the biggest pushing and after they merged with sony to become SE, SE became the biggest pusher of it. personally, i'm a bluetooth wh0re as that has become a requisite for all of my cell phones, bt headset, laptop, and desktop. wusb has potential so bt sig better get it in gear.

We have 4 bluetooth keyboard/mouse combos. Best wireless set for conference room, IMHO. We have gone through 4-5 different wireless combos before the bluetooth solution came up. I can be on the other side of the room from the computer looking at the projector screen and not have to worry about the mouse or keyboard being on the fringe of the maximum range.

The question I wonder is, does Bluetooth use the 2.4GHz frequency. Whoever thought that everything in the world could share that frequency is really dumb. My wireless stuffgets interupted every time some one picks up a cordless phone.

It's a smarter system than that. They don't use the same frequency. They use frequencies within a frequency range. There are thousands of channels on that band.

My bluetooth has never been interupted by a cordless phone or anything else for that matter.
