Whats the point of a bed skirt?

I got this bed set for christmas from this chick I know... (maybe a hint ) So today I'm throwing out my old 8 year old blankets that look pretty bad when put side by side these new ones.

Anyway, the first bag had a bed skirt and pillow covers...so I put it all on ect ect, after setting it all up I notice the bedskirt cannot be seen over the sheets and comforter and blanket and is covered by the 2 sheets over it.

So what is the point of a bed skirt

No. It hides the milk crates and duct tape you used to make a platform bed*. The milk crates that are full of useful items you haven't used since building the bed with integrated storage.
