What's the point in ricing out civics/integras?

I honestly don't understand. I'm not ragging on Honda, though. There's been several hondas in the family, they were all awesome cars. But what I'm complaining about is those guys that spend thousands of dollars on PLASTIC CRAP around their car. Ugly ultra-shiney rims, obvious skirt kits that nearly touch the ground and look all deformed, hideous rear spoilers, etc. I saw one hatchback with dual CENTERED exhaust! wtf?

If you want a spoiler on your car, the way I see it there are two options. Get one that actually comes as an option with the car, hence looking decent. OR, get one that would benefit the car performance-wise if you're an enthusiast. But I doubt you'll be going 300mph any time soon in that Civic, so you really don't need a huge wing.

I really don't understand why people would waste their money on it though... I saw this front piece thing for $500. Why waste that kind of cash for a piece of plastic that'll probably decrease the performance of your car? Wouldn't lowering the car itself improve performance (if done properly) more than adding plastic around the bottom?

I'd really appreciate it if someone could actually shed some light about this. I see SO many cars that make me CRINGE when they drive by, so who are their owners? There must be some people here that own them and can explain? Wouldn't it be cheaper to add/change parts under the hood, have your suspension retuned, get a better stereo.. or something else, rather than wasting your money on plastic?

*shrug*

and sorry, I don't have any pics. :(

It's all about the ghetto-racing style yo'!

(to be honest, I have no idea what comes over these guys)

You can't look hard with a stock Civic/Integra. My friend (ex-friend actually) who always has to borrow money from me spent over $2000 on his 01 Civic so he can look hard when he drives around in it. If you spend enough money on it they can be fast but most of them aren't. (And no I don't understand either)

Please tell me he doesn't use the word "hard" like that in conversation. :Q

Well first of all i am not into that whole body kit crap, but i do think that racing out a car is cool. First of all i like engine mods (intake exhaust, and intakess) b/c they make the car faster. Dropping a car gives it a lower center of gravity and increased handling and so do aftermarket suspensions. I absolutley despise the cars that have all of those tacky looking paint jobs and not one engine mod so they end up with a car that LOOKS like a race car when it really does 0-60 in like 10 sec. I see no problem with putting accesiories on yorur car ro make it faster, but just to enhance looks is pointless.

haha! That's just as bad.

I'm unfamiliar with Civic mods, but what could you get for $2000? I bet you could get your car moving pretty damn fast. BTW, Honda brought back the faster hatchback as an SiR. 160 or so HP in a little hatchback is pretty sweet. I remember our old 1991 Civic Si hatchback, that was less than 110hp and it was quick enough. I admit, the sedans are lemons, but come on... $2000 has got to at least add some kind of noticable boost to it? And I don't mean any nitrous sh*t, just normal upgrades of some sort that'd add power. The honda S2000 has what, 280hp or something? Whatever it has, it has more than any normal honda, no? Is it possible to put that engine in a Civic or Accord? if so, why don't those ricers do that instead?

I think I'd rather spend $2000 on a sound setup than plastic. ;)

I think I understand what your're trying to say here. But the thing is, how many people actually race cars? Very few.

its because since alot (read: "alot" not "all" - not to get flamed) of girls dont know cars, they will see a riced up civic and think that because it has a spoiler and a lowerd body it must be a good car.

i think ricing cars up is all about getting girls not racing, which i see as a good enough reason. I mean if your just gonna use your car to get girls, why spend 30k+ on a lexus, when you could spend like 13k + 3K on a riced up civic.
girls cant tell the difference.

some cars can engine swap with each other...the civic and integra come to mind, one of my friends bro has an integra type-r vtec engine installed in his civiv dx, i think it cost him about $7000

i totally agree with nefrodite...why the hell are people always bashing people who like to mod (you people should stop calling it rice) when alot of the people who frequent these boards do equally "ghey" shiet like putting neon lights in their case or cutting windows, etc.
how many posts have i seen in some of these forums that show people showing off their modded cases...yet you don't call them "riced out" even though your definition of rice seems to be putting "ghey" stuff or simply a mod that you think is ugly.

some of the cases shoved full of fans i've seen probably sound just as annoying as someone with a loud exhaust...how many posts do we have to have about this?

That's pretty shallow to say.. But it is true to some degree. My friend was telling me how some chick(s) he knows thinks cars like that are cool or cute. Blech. I don't care WTF chicks think. I'd buy a car *I* think looks nice, and if I had money to waste, i'd put performance enhancing mods in it. IMO, all the stupid plastic crap and spoilers looks RIDICULOUS. Stock 95 Civic coupe looks nice to me the way it is. When it's all riced out it looks terrible...

girls can't tell the different between a lexus and a civic? lol give me a break...i think any girl would take say an IS300 over modded civic anyday

that's like saying you would choose a BMW or Mercedes over a Civic as well...girls aren't that stupid, even the ones who don't know anything about cars

ok mabye lexus is300 and civic was a bad comparison, but you get the point.

its also partially because of those movies like the fast and the furious, which girls see that green supra riced up (but also fast), and they associate riced up with fast.

Well, fans actually create a BIT of performance gain (by taking heat out of the case), versus ground effects that add weight to a car and don't add 15 HP...

but excessive fans add far more noise then necessary, reducing user comfort level. if you take away most of the fans will your pc crash? probably not unless you have some pos case/heatsink.

Having a cooler PC doesn't help performance unless it was crashing at a higher temperature. otherwise, identical performance.

I could throw my PC in a refrigerated wind tunnel and the performance wouldn't increase at all.

as far as the original question "What's the point in ricing out civics/integras?"

It's trendy. People do it cause their friends do it. One guy thinks clerar lights are cool, and his "I agree with anything that makes me popular" friends start doing it....
