What's the Philips PSC708?

Is that better than the Acoustic Edge?... there's no picture of it on their website... and i can't seem to find any other info about it. 😱

Sounds like an updated AE. Might be why the AE was disappearing from retail channels. They just recently released new versions of the Seismic and Rythmic Edge, this may be an AE update.

Just checked out their website, and all images and .pdf's relating to it have been removed for some reason. It still lists it however...weird. I will have to keep an eye out..

Full list of Philips sound cards

Probably the same card, as the 706, maybe an over seas version.

I'm about ready to give up on Philips. Their cards aren't being sold anywhere. I would really like to see them succeed in this dept. because I hate creative, but having your cards pulled from the shelves is not a good sign.

Are they even making it still? Seems like those things disappeared... and eBay is the only place to find them... which is quite sad because they're $50 for no box, no manual, no cables. 🙁

I think they're dying out of the market. All the places I knew that used to carry them have stopped. CircuitCity is the only place I know of that still has a small supply of them (at some stores) and they're priced for clearance at $49.95.

It'd be real shame if the v1.89 drivers are the last I'll ever see for my AE.

From what I know, there will be a PSC708 to complement the Philips Edge range. The card AFAIK will use the same ThunderBird Avenger DSP, but will have more functionallity. Maybe 7.1?

As on the PC Stuff website, Philips will also be releasing other new cards PSC604 and PSC605.

The cards will complement the PSC703, 703, 706, 708 and 602 (PSC 702 and 704 are out of production). All except the PSC602 use QSound's algorithims.

Philips are getting very serious in the soundcard market..... expect some action soon.

Cheers

They better hurry up. There's no b&m stores that sell them, and there's only 4 places online that you can buy them. (Only 3 that might be reliable)

It would seem pretty unusual that they are revamping their whole "Edge" series just to drop out of the market wouldn't it?

for those of you looking for a sound card, the philips ae is the best i've ever used.........it absolutely kicks ass..........great sound ...the best i've ever heard.........no matter what happens i will buy the new acoustic edge even if it is a minor....it is one thing i will buy blindly without doing any research.........i always regarded philips as a top consumer company.........and now they are showing it on sound card market.......the acoustic edge is not that famous but if you ask most editors of big audiophile websites they will tell you that it is one helluva sound card.......and the best thing is that they CONTINOUSLY update their drivers and are very helpful

Three cheers to Philips and their driver team

Only a matter of a few months. I know that for certain.
Why does it take a few months to release something that's already been made before?

The PSC708 has the same specs as the PSC706. Uses the same chip, so why would they loose market share yanking everything from the shelves?

Who says they are "yanking it from the shelves"? Maybe these stores find that everyone and their brother just blindly buys Creative or something similar, and weren't selling enough...

Philips has not only been actively updating their soundcard site, they have been steadily releasing drivers.

Oh, and btw, people buy computer hardware at B&M stores?? No WAY! 😉 😛

They aren't clearing them AFAIK... could be that stores decided to stock PSC708 instead of PSC706. Don't know... But the ThunderBird Avenger DSP is still quite a advanced chip - they aren't going to give it up in a hurry... plus Qsound is doing quite nicely out of the Philips deal.

Cheers
