What's the next big RTS on your radar?

I think its definitely C&C generals 2 for me. Its EA so its really got an uphill battle to get my cash but we're off to an excellent start with:

- Frostbite 2 engine, best engine available for the PC right now IMO, no catering to the scrubs still on direct x9 and as a result it has excellent multi threading which an RTS really needs!

- PC exclusive (for now anyways), RTS is and always has been crap on consoles

Its due out in 2013 so plenty of time for EA to fuck it up of course and if they dont screw the game itself they may load it up with garbage DRM but i remain hopeful. I want an RTS with good multi-threading support for massive wars, there currently aren't any that don't bog down so im looking forward to generals 2 with its FB2 engine which in theory should be able to handle huge battles. I hated the original generals because of what it signified for the series but i did have a ton of fun online with it, playing unconventional 2v2s on death valley the 8 player map was epic :awe:

Smaller blips but still on my radar would be sins of a solar empire:rebellion and starcraft: heart of the swarm. Not super psyched about either because rebellion dosent fix what i wanted from the original sins and starcraft will be more of the same but they'll definitely be fun and worth getting!

So what are you guys looking forward to on the RTS front? Wish there was a company of heroes 2 actually :( to hell with dawn of war.

As wary as I am of EA and Bioware nowadays, I have to admit the teaser trailer for Generals 2 piqued my interest.

Company of Heroes 2 would be amazing, I will keep wishing.

Dawn of War III, followed by Company of Heroes II. Sins Rebellion looks great.

A proper sequel to Supreme Commander 1 would pique my interest.

Wondering if my interest in RTS games is waning, which is weird since it's what I mainly played as a teenager. I lost interest in SC2 surprisingly fast, but I loved company of heroes and dawn of war 2 though. Sins was great what little I played of it, should get back to that. Don't have skills or time for online though.

Generals 2 looks good and could be awesome, but I'm definitely skeptical. Not even sure I'll buy hearth of the swarm yet, since I didn't finish the main SC2 campaign.

By the way; CoH 2 is possible:

End of Nations is free to play and all that, but it looks kinda interesting. And won't cost me anything try it out so I'm going to keep an eye on it.

As long as they don't make it like dawn of war 2 (where cutting off territories didn't matter) and fix the ridiculously broken stuff (kangaroos + commandos anyone?) then it'll be fine.

Dawn of War III

They certainly made a big step forward for me with II and CR. Space Marines are lick rocking horse droppings and are as tough as nails. They shouldn't be deployed in waves of hundreds, equalling the number of Imperial Guardsmen or Orks.

Keep Space Marines in low numbers. Bolster the numbers of other races main troops so that they majorly outnumber the Space Marines.
Completely forget the abomination that is Retribution
Add in Supply Lines a la CoD

If they turn it back into a Dawn of War I, my money will stay in my pocket. They would be taking a major step back from the fluff which I enjoy reading (I own over 40 books from the Black Library, including several limited editions).

I've been waiting for warcraft 4 forever and I will continue waiting forever most likely. I blame that worthless pile of crack called WOW.

Company of Heroes 2. Last week I managed to acquire the very last reward (medal), completing all campaigns and getting all of the medals.

It WILL come out, just not soon enough for me.

Another vote for WarCraft 4. Though with Blizzard pouring all their resources on MMOs I doubt we'll see it soon. CoH2 is definitely on my radar. And how about a proper sequel to AoE?

Dawn of War 3 provided they dont fuck it up again.

The next chapter of Starcraft 2. I dont like the MP (same as SC1) but the campaign is decent provided you get the game on sale.

Oh, and still waiting on a proper Age Of Empires sequel, an Empire Earth sequel that doesnt suck ass, and a sequel to Age of Mythology.

Used to be my favorite genre, but there sure is a dearth of RTS games coming out now. Looking foward to Heart of the Swarm. Generals 2, maybe, but who knows what Bioware is stooping to these days.

As far as a wish list, I would love to see another Age of Empires game and another Battle for Middle Earth game.

Definitely Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. It's going to be a stand-alone product that will include the new Rebellion content and all of the previous content from the original game and the first two expansions.

Sins is a deep and complex RTS of strategy and tactics that rocks for online multiplayer PvP, but for some reason it's been sorely overlooked by the online multiplayer RTS crowd. Maybe that's because it's more of a strategic think-fest than it is an APM clickfest.

they're not even close to finishing what they intitially promised with SC2, we'll be lucky to get Heart of the Swarm this year, and then there's still Legacy of the Void after that, why would they suddenly divert resources to another RTS when they're still clearly deep in development of SC2?

I really hope someone makes something like Rise of Nations. Rise of Legends was a pile of shit.

I want Dawn of War 3, and a single-player game with perhaps basic on-line features à-la Space Marines, but not about Space Marines, I'm tired of them even though I do like Space Marines. What I want is a Space Marines-type (referring to Space Marines the game of course) mission-based, story-driven (scripted for the most part, I wouldn't mind) campaign depicting events from another race's point of view.

I want to see something along the lines of a Craftworld squad sent to investigate several locations where suspected Necrons activity has been spotted or reported by other Craftworld or Exiles. I want something along the lines of Tau having difficulty trying to bring a newly-discovered race in its Greater Good collective, or even playing as the new race facing an impending invasion by Tau forces due to that new race's refusal to be part of their so called Greater Good. I want to see Fell Powers in the Warp starting to shit bricks when they discover the arrival of a new Tyranids Hive Fleet.

But I know all of that wouldn't belong to the RTS genre. So just to repeat myself, as far as RTS is concerned I want DoW3, and if that ever happens then I'll automatically consider it the next "big RTS", since I'm an absolute sucker for everything and anything closely related to Warhammer 40,000 (see my Avatar as well).

I never understood what people had against Rise of Legends, I thought it was pretty fun overall, as long as you didn't try to see it as some sort of successor to RoN which was my favorite RTS from the early 2000's era.

And what was wrong w/ DoW Retribution (unless you are talking about single player)??

Derp, just realized Rise of Legends WAS terrible, absolutely terrible. I was thinking of Age of Mythology which many people also didn't like, but I thought was pretty well made.

Sins Rebellion here, all the others have gone towards the RTS-RPG hybrid which I can't stand. Give me big armies, resource management & a lot to micromanage and I'm set. I am also looking forward to SC2 Heart of the Swarm, especially since I'll get it for nothing. I won't pay full game price for a glorified expansion or what should have been in the game in the first place.

DoW 2 was not a patch on 1 & I am expecting 3 to be even worse. Generals 2... considering how EA went with C&C 3 & 4 I'm expecting a disaster wrapped up in excessive DRM's & DLC packs. Warcraft 4, I hope they drop the emphasis on heroes and focus on the bread & butter instead.

I really hope they make a COH 2. That game just rocks in my RTS world. More action little resource management, great multi +single player.

I am waiting for 2 games, and I am hedging my bet that both will never be made, one is Warcraft 4 and the other is Commandoes 4. The day Blizzard announced WOW was a sad, sad day in my life....

I can tell, C&C Generals 2 would be a pile of cow poo. That series died when westwood shut down

Why are you even MENTIONING Warcraft 4? LOL.

Blizz is busy making SC2 expansion (HotS) which is already taking 3 years. And we'll see another 2 years for their 3rd (and last?) expansion LotV.

So that's 5-7 years from now just to complete SC2. And even if miraculously Warcraft 4 was announced, you're looking at 3-4 years since announcement for the release.

FYI, SC2 was announced May 07, released July 2010. (3 yrs)
Diablo III was announced June 08, it's not even released, actually just delayed with an overhaul (early 2012 definitely out of the picture).

War4, lol. Not even 5 years, you're looking at about a decade from today. I will have a family with my fiance-to-be by then.
