What's the name of this show on PBS?

This professor stands in front of a class and talks about the rise and fall of different civilizations. Usually runs late at night.

I really like this show and would like to purchase it on DVD.

No, it's not Spartans.

It's from the late 80's/early 90's, maybe older. There's just this older guy who stands in front of a class, and talks about the rise and fall of different civilizations. He has a European accent. It's facinating stuff. It's a 12-part series.

They've been running it forever late at night.

In the link Ross provided there's a Local Listings bar on the right hand side. Enter in your zipcode to see what shows are on at what times.

Match the time you've seen the program to the time section in your local listings and you'll have your answer.

Has anyone seen The Elegant Universe? Looks fascinating.
It's only $10 at Deep Discount DVD. With the 20% off sale I am looking for stuff to buy.

Still, if I could remember the name of that show...

The Joseph Campbell stuff looks interesting.

Was that Alexander the Great show worth watching? I should have TIVO'd it.

I believe that was on the History Channel?

Never saw it, though people that have said it was very informative and fun to watch.

Ruled the known world at age 24? Wow.

Wag - What's your zip code and what time is it usually on?

Yzzim - My bad, yes it was on History not PBS.

If I knew when it was on I wouldn't need to ask here would I?😛

It's actually on cable, a NH PBS channel, they run programs for college credit at night. I know lots of people have seen this show.

The Western Tradition. Yes, I think that's it, thanks.

It's a really interesting show but unfortunately it's $450 on DVD.

No problem. As I remember, the professor in the video taught at UCLA. And my professor who taught my history class also appeared in the video. Otherwise I would not have known about this series at all. I see it appear every so often on our local PBS stations.

is this the one with the prof from ucla that makes me want to shoot myself in the head out of sheer boredom? 😛

unless they re-edited it, it was just the guy talking for hours and hours... i like my pbs with pretty visuals and scenes from the places they're talking about.
