A few years back I completely and irrepairably burned the bridge between me and my once best friend. I felt that he'd simply used me and my generosity in order to achieve his own goals, among other things (such as being borderline verbally abusive at times). After several months of this it was clear that we weren't the same friends we once were. One weekend I just sat down and composed and sent an email basically insulting him in every way possible given how well I knew him, implied that I never wanted to speak to him again, etc. At the time it felt really good to do, and I suppose it helped me move past that part of my life.

In retrospect I'd say it was probably the single (or one of the) biggest mistake(s) I've ever made in my life. Even given all of his problems, he was still by far the best and closest friend I've ever had, even up to this day, nearly five years later. It might or might not have been for the best. I really don't know.

Keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer.

About 25 years ago I broke up with a chick. She cut the Rolling Stones bumper sticker out of my Jeep's soft top window with a razor. I burned her sweet Dodge Challenger to the ground.
