A few years ago my wife lost the solitaire off her wedding ring. It got caught on something at work and ripped off at the base of the prongs. Luckily we had a jewelry rider on our homeowners insurance. I think the claim reimbursed us between $8K - $9K.

$8,000 motorcycle Ducati 900ss

insurance picked up the tab.

But boy did I have to awnser a bunch of questions..

Other than the losses in my IRA, I lost a bag of weed once that was pretty spendy. The key is not to have anything that is uninsured and you cannot afford to lose.

It was like one of those ninja throwing stars, except it was a kid's toy from a box of cereal - all the "points" were just suction cups. You could throw it at anything smooth and it would stick. Everyone thought it was really cool. It was stolen by a classmate at school. (2nd or 3rd grade)

Nothing in the years since has really had as much of a relative impact as those two things.
Loved those when I was a kid.

Just as soon not dredge up more childhood memories.🙁
They done stole that too!
hehe.

Maybe he........er, I mean, it was nuked from orbit?

My car was stolen. The cops found it in a parking lot in one piece. A couple of weeks later, the transmission went out. I replaced the transmission, but bought another car in the meantime. I came home from work one day, and it was stolen again. Cops never found it again. Oh well, insurance gave me more than it was worth.

I travelled to see my brother by train when I still lived in the UK, and forgot my bag on the train. Needless to say, I never saw it again.

It contained my DSi and about 6 DS games, including Pokemon Platinum and some pretty high level pokes. I've since replaced the DSi and a few of the games.

What were you doing with my 7-year-old's bag?

😉

Well the EXACT price you paid matters on an insurance claim. Also doesn't matter the value at the time of loss unless you cannot provide proof of purchase.

So you just think my burglary was fabricated from 2 years ago? That's a laugh.

About as much as how since you own an old Maxima, that's keeping you from getting a Exige.

It doesn't matter to us.😛

My car was stolen before I owned it...

I was borrowing my mother-in-law's car while mine was in the shop. I went to dinner at a friend's house (actually sehlaw's old apartment 😉 ) and it was stolen off the street.

The cops recovered undamaged it via LoJack a few days later.

The next year, we bought the car from her. 😉

I had my cymbal case stolen from me with $3000+ in cymbals. Many of which were one of a kind and not replaceable. It will be many years before I get my "sound" back.

My moutainbike in 5th grade. I was playing baseball at the park when someone walked up with a bolt cutter, cut the lock and rode off. It had a MN bike license on it and the police actually recovered it four years latter when it was quite beatup and too small for me.

The one I miss more is a $150 wooden chess set I bought in Puntarenas, Costa Rica.

Tektronix DSO , cost about $2K.
So pissed when someone took it, took other stuff too, but probably took the scope and didn't even know what they were taking, probably thought it was some new type of tv.

My sanity, thought it was stolen by a couple women way back. Thankfully I had just misplaced it along with my balls in the storage closet.
