I thought about this Lexar but Ive heard that the drivers for it are horrible and cause all sorts of windows problems. Whats the best combo one to get (the cheaper the better, of course)? Im running win2k.

I have NO problems with my LEXAR CF reader, buts its not a combo unit.

I was working on a system for a client with the SOYO Dragon (POS, Im RMAing for an MSI or Gigabyte) which came with a very handy USB/CF/SC reader box that fits in a 3.5 or 5.25 drive bay (stick it in a 3.5 if you can). I plugged it into my ASUS system and it worked like a charm! Its about $25~35... its called the BAYONE.

The basic Bayone:

This model includes black and silver face plates and 6 slot standards :

Dont know the cost on the new unit.

i have absolutely no problems with mine

it's a 6-in-1 reader and it's using the default MS drivers for Windows XP, not the manufacturer's...but they do have win98se and win2k drivers...no idea how they are.

I had nothing but trouble with a Lexar combo reader/writer when I switched to WinXP. I ended up getting rid of it. The replacement is a very compact Imation reader/writer that comes with adapters for CF, SM, SD, and MS. The nice thing about it is that it only uses one drive letter for all formats.
Initially I tried to get the Lexar to work, and the tech folks sent me a driver set along with instructions on installing it - but that was very unstable, and XP did not like it.

yikes, that's not a nice thing...with mine i transfer data from my SM card to my CF card...or to my hdd...have them both plugged in at once..etc. etc...in fact, i could have 4 cards plugged in at once transferring data around no sweat...and the unit of mine is very compact...it's actually slightly thinner my rio500 unit..just over 1cm i imagine...looks quite nice too (like brushed aluminum)

of course, it's manufactured right here in taiwan, i'm not sure about its availability overseas.
