You can get the most Powerful adapter in the world, if there is no signal at the spot, or whatever it is there has a High SNR it will not help.

The 54GS line is one of the worse Wireless Router that was ever produce. Get yourself a better Wireless Router rather than spent similar money on a "fancy" adapter.

😎

Both the 54 router and 54GS adaptor are crap. I would know I am the unfortunate owner of both.

Signal drops to 24mbps over 3 meters if there's a plant in the line of sight. What a joke

yeah i agree arg clin the 54gs is not very good and its a long range adapter with a long antenna. my wnda 3100 usb adapter is like 3 time stronger on picking up signal.but theres got to be a better adapter out there. im really not sure if i need a good antenna or a better adapter? i dont have internet in my home and the signals that i pick up is very weak.

i've had good luck with dlink desktop adapters. don't remember the model, but it got a signal through ~50ft and 4 12" thick stone walls. it was connecting to a wrt54g router.

you could always load custom firmware on your wireless router and increase the power output (higher dB)

i have no router and no internet. so i think i need a good antenna.

So you're looking for a power wireless adapter so you can steal your neighbors wireless internet connection...tsk tsk

Get the adapters with the attennaes sticking out - I prefer wireless adapters with Ralink chipsets - most big brand names use them...

**update ** well today i tried a 3lbs. can of planters peanuts and got amazing results. lol yes you heard me right. before i was getting 3 networks with the best signal of 18% on a clear day. now i got 5 networks with the best signal of 62%. i cant believe this but this really works. im wondering if planters is got a bigger can hehehe.

i'd get a WRT54GL with DD-WRT in CLIENT mode with directionals and up the power.

plus that into your switch and smoke it.

I was playing with one of these for about half a year, my girlfriend dumped me the week before it came in so I was fortunate to be able to keep it in my living room.

It was pretty neat to play with, I saw somewhere that a company was selling a 1300 mw card also that I had thought about setting up. It would be nice to live a few miles line of sight from someone else who wanted to see how far you could get a signal between sites.

Edit, here is one that is 2000mw on amazon,

it would be interesting to see how this would perform, I'm not sure that it's legal though, I was under the impression that you weren't supposed to have anything higher than a 1000mw transmit.
