What's the most gigantic/scary resource hog program you've ever used?

I have seen farcry run a huge pf (700mb) and eat maybe 800mb of RAM as well, so i thought i'd seen it all...then along came Simcity4;

i was playing just now (only 70,000odd people city as well) on one of the huge squares, and was cheerily running a 1.02Gb pf, while i had as little as 10mb of my Gb of RAM free at times :Q

(dual monitors let me see all this action real-time ;)

Sims2 is pretty intense, but it gets thrashed by Simcity4...

I don't use photochop much, but i hear than can be a real resource muncher too, and one of mates says AutoCAD and Vis are pretty hungry apps.

When I get several torrents running it can eat quite a lot of ram. SWAT4 as well.

FarCry runs fine on my machine. Simcity 4 lags like crazy!! Also Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 is pretty damn bad. It got so bad that the game wasnt enjoyable anymore.

System specs are
Shuttle AN35N mobo
AMD Athlon XP 2700+
1 gig PC 3200 RAM
Nvidia 6800 nu

Games usually pull the most, which I'd expect. As far as normal programs go, Adobe Acrobat tends to stay in memory long after I stopped using it, and Norton tends to pull 100MB+ of memory even when it's not doing anything. I'm pretty picky about what I run in the background, so I've since switched to Kapersky which runs a lot lower.

At work I work with programs which can get quite bad depending on what they have to calculate and how many thousands of data files you use. Worst I've seen was over 3 1/2 GB or so.

Music related sampling plugins with huge sample libraries in addition to recording and playback of several tracks at once under low latency with tons of realtime software monitored effects. *breathes* My system with 2GB memory can choke for more ram and easily CPU, under these conditions.

Lotus Notes has to rank up there.

I wrote some wall street analysis programs that will use between 2 and 6 gig of RAM depending on the parameter set. That doesn't really count, though, since they're not commercially-available programs.

Bloatus Bloats. Its a e-mail app that might theoretically run well on machines released 5 years from now.

3d/cad stuff takes the cake. I've run into the 2GB/application ram limit with Rhino, maya, and autocad.

but only in rhino was I doing something I could concieve of the application being able to handle it.

nothing more cryptically anoying than "Windows has run out of memory. XXXXXX will now close. Please restart your computer"

Any of the sims game take all the resources they can. Also Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. Its a lot of processing to calculate all the stuff they need.
