What's the most expensive thing you've ever had stolen from you?

A couple years back I lived in a crappy area by USC. My apartment was broken into while I was in class and the following was stolen:

- work laptop & work phone
- personal laptop
- digital camera
- digital camcorder
- jewelry
- bike

Total value of all items stolen = ~$5000

The assholes broke my kitchen window and the cops were entirely useless and unable to retrieve any fingerprints, etc. I moved shortly afterwards, being robbed felt so horrible and violating.

At my new place, there was a professional robbery of cars in our locked underground parking garage. Several cars had their passenger side windows smashed in, including mine. A few people had laptops, etc. stolen and I had my Coach messenger bag, work phone, wallet, credit cards, etc. jacked. Total value of all items stolen = $1000, they also tried to use my credit cards to fill up at a local gas station and took out $500 cash advance via an ATM from my Discover.

Once again, the cops were completely useless and nothing was retrieved.

Don't store valuables in your car y0.

sucks about college, but you know its USC...

Hmm I wonder if home insurance covers theft

Radar Detector and a smashed drivers side window and no, cops didn't do squat....of course considering the merchandise I didn't expect them to. about $450 including window replacement cost.

Lesson learned, never again. Not even in a locked garage. Fvcking thieves.

I think home insurance covers theft/break-in, my husband and I considered getting renter's insurance but haven't yet.

$80 RC Car.

It was a big deal when I was 8. I saved up for months. Then somebody broke into our garage they day after I bought. It was among the things stolen.

Was it on the windshield or in a glove compartment? That sucks.

What loser would do that to a kid? 🙁 That's terrible.

Casio Databank Calculator wristwatch. It was a luxury in Colombia. I was 14.

Were you wearing it when it was stolen? :Q

Of course. I was robbed in the street. They took my watch along with $1000 Colombian pesos.

I had a collection of misprinted xmen cards from the 90's when I was a kid. I had quite a few that were worth a lot since they were misprints too. Some fuckface stole the binder from me in 5th grade.

My car back in college. Cops found what remained and insurance totaled it. Never heard a thing about them catching who did it.

My innocence, and it was priceless. Other than that, probably the box that had a few rookie cards in it - Joe Montana, Lawrence Taylor, etc.

How traumatizing. 🙁 I'm guessing the cops didn't do much to help retrieve lost watch and cash? 🙁

Oh no! 🙁 Did you bring it to school? I had a ton of things stolen by other kids when I was in elementary school... small stuff though, erasers and fancy pencils.

Cops? Lol.. the cops would've probably stolen my "beloved patriot" sneakers if I'd called them....

Since I don't have a lot of friends and the ones I have I've known them since forever, I haven't been targeted for home robbery. Did you know a lot of robbery cases are not random and that in most cases the perpetrators know the victim? I always lock the windows and doors when I leave the house, unlike most of my neighbors who leave their basement door unlock. Noobs.

While I park my car on the street, it has never been broken into. I never leave anything in my car that's visible to people walking by. I don't even have an air freshener. What I have, I put it in the glove compartment or trunk. I do have a tendency to lose things in my house 'cause I forget where I put them.

It's appalling how useless cops are in these sorts of situations. My ex's car was stolen, taken for a joy ride and totaled as well... cops never had a clue about what happened. It almost seems too easy for thieves, so many robberies and crimes to unsolved...

I suspect my apartment by USC was an inside job by the maintanence man who also lived in the building. He'd been in my place a lot to fix light bulbs/sinks/etc. and he knew that I was a student with a lot of $$$ electronics. Fvcker even offered to "help me move" to my new place since "he felt bad for me," no way I was going to let him help and potentially rob me in my new place too. Too bad I didn't have any solid proof/evidence. 🙁

You're smart to never leave anything in your car that's visible to people walking by. I've become a lot more careful about that since the breakin, it's just not worth it to be careless. My sister's car window was broken because she left the suction-cup for a GPS on her windshield... she'd taken it with her and it wasn't even in the car but she had to pay $500 for the broken window.

My virginity...that was priceless.

Ah hell...waitaminit...I willingly gave that away. 😛

Our garage got broken into about 12 years ago. Fuckers stole all my power tools, all my hand tools, and worst of all, all my fishing gear.

I had a couple of custom-made saltwater rods with expensive reels, a LARGE custom tackle box, and all my tackle, fresh & saltwater.

In all, the pricks got away with about $15,000 in property.
Thank gawd for GOOD renters insurance. It took some time, but they finally paid off on everything.

Just want to put in the obligatory, it's stupid to not get renter's insurance. If you already have car insurance, it's relatively cheap to add it on.

I do believe we did this thread last year or the year before also. Virginity was the No. 1. response iirc.
