I think we found the winner.

yup.. sounds like it.

Right now, antimatter is the most expensive substance on Earth, about $62.5 trillion a gram ($1.75 quadrillion an ounce). The production is, at best, 50 percent efficient because half of what's created are regular protons, and the equipment now used was not designed to fuel rockets. Harold Gerrish of NASA/Marshall and others estimate that improvements in equipment to slow and trap the antiprotons could bring the price down to about $5,000 per microgram. A new injector at Fermilab outside Chicago will allow that facility to increase its production tenfold, from 1.5 to 15 nanograms a year.

i wonder the size of the facility is.. 1.5 to 15 nanograms a year..

I think I read in some Tom Clancy book that it was Tritium.

Of course "read in som Clancy book" rates up there with "I read on Anandtech that..."

Wha? Titrium is just a fancy name for the stuff that glows in the dark. Titrium night sights are what most pistols have if they have them.

If you really want to know, pick up a copy of the Rob Report. They have islands and stuff for sale in there.

Pure Tritium is quite expensive purportedly. The tritium on night sights is a diluted compound.

Robb Report is how its spelled. The reading for the UBER rich. Yachts, Bentleys, and Islands all in one mag. Oh. I forgot Learjets.

EDIT: SAFFRON!

Is this tritium the hydrogen molecule with 3 neutrons? As for saffron, that herb, I saw it for a few bucks in these containers in Israel. It's that stuff on some Spanish rice and the official Spanish dish I tihnk.

$15-$20

Remember on Seinfeld, Elaine wanted kill her boyfriends cat(s) because of her allergies? She tried to get Jerry to do it and he was like "Hire a hitman. What could it cost, 15, 20 dollars?"...

The single most expensive "object" I can think of would be a Nimitz class carrier which goes for somewhere around 5 billion$ without an air wing.

Tritium is hydrogen with 2 neutrons.

Normal hydrogen is one proton, one electron.
Deuterium (used in heavy water and actually quite abundant) is one proton, one neutron, one electron.
Tritium (radioactive and rare) is one proton, two neutrons, and one electron.

Tritium does *not* glow on its own. It's a weak beta emitter. Typically, one will find very small borosilicate tubes that have their inner walls coated with a phosphor. The tube is filled with tritium. The beta particles excite the phosphors and produce visible light one sees. Virtually harmless, however quantities over 25 mCi are regulated heavily and require a license to have in your posession UNLESS the final product is under GENERAL license. One example would be self luminous EXIT signs.

Cheers!
