I need something that is easy to use for 5 people in an office environment. The office has NO internet access. Any ideas?

Yelling real loud doesn't work?

EDIT: Woohah, I replied to your post during the same minute it was posted. Rather nifty, I think... ;)

go in the dos prompt. type "net send <computer name> and your message" should work with all nt domains.

computer name would be the person network log-in

I know of VCM, it has the features that you are looking for.
It is nowhere near as polished as ICQ or the like, but it seems to work OK from what I have seen.

Another vote for WinPop, it should be on ALL computers, tiny application, very simple.

Aim or Netmeeting would be the easiest, cheapest, and most powerful.

I can't tell if WinPop 2001 needs an internet connection.

<< Why not just try it and find out? >>

1) I am not at their office.
2) I posted here asking for feedback from people w/ user experience and ideas.
3) I do not feel like wasting my time trying to make something work if it will not.
4) Why don't you try it out and let me know how it works.

Because I only have 1 computer on at home and I'm too lazy to fire up the others.

Did you mean intra-office messaging? If so, then setting up a spare machine to act as an email server or a chat server would be my idea of most efficient. Your defintion of 'efficient' might be different than mine.

But you really meant inter-office, how far apart are these offices and if so, my vote goes for carrier pigeon since you don't have internet access.
