What's the most dishonest thing you've seen at a retail store?

I stopped by Staples on the way home tonight to pick up a bluetooth in-ear headset, the Plantronics BackBeat Go 2. They aren't the greatest quality in the world, but they're perfect for my purposes and price range. So anyway, Staples only had the one box on hand and it had obviously been opened and returned, but still looked to be in great shape. It was missing the replacement tips but the size that was on it was perfect and they gave me $10 off since they were missing so I was satisfied and I went on my merry way. Got home and I noticed the manual didn't match the functions of the headset (no voice prompts, battery-checking didn't work, etc...) Turns out whoever bought the headset had the original BackBeat Go headset as well, and since they look nearly identical, they put the original headset in the Go 2 box and returned it and kept the Go 2. I have to admit it was pretty slick, even if it does piss me off. lol Staples is already closed so I'll be making a stop there on the way in to work tomorrow...........

So, what have you experienced like this?

Cliffs
1. Bought Plantronics BackBeat Go 2 BT headset, obviously a returned item, but it's the only one Staples had
2. Get home and find out the person actually returned the BackBeat Go (the previous version) instead of the Go 2
3. Get very aggravated and mildly amused simultaneously
4. Post on ATOT

Update: I went to the store yesterday and they had one from a nearby store there ready for me to exchange. I walked in, found the manager, traded, and was out in under 5 minutes. He didn't do anything "to make my life easier" while I was there, but he did say he'd knock some off my next purchase if I come find him. I didn't really expect him to do that, just exchanging the product so quickly was enough for me, and I'm very impressed with the whole thing.

Do you guys think it would do that manager any good if I called his District Manager and told them how impressed I was with the manager and how well he handled the whole thing? Or is it a waste of everybody's time?

when i was like 16 and did playstation mod chip installations, i would sometimes fuck up the installation and fry the board. i'd go to kmart and buy a brand new playstation, open it from the bottom of the box very cleanly, take out the working playstation (sometimes the controller too) and replace it with the broken playstation. i'd then use super glue to seal up the bottom of the box so it would look like the box was never opened since the seal was still intact. i'd then either return it or have my friend return it. we'd usually just do this in the car in the parking lot. really crummy thing to do.

One time the local Giant had an expensive Pasta Sauce on sale (1/2 price close out ~5 dollars per jar). I bought 5 jars the returned them to a different store who was charging ~12 per jar, so I made $35 profit as a store credit.
MtnMan that reminds me - people with 50 + items in the self checkout who need help with nearly every item.

Customer buying 5 bags of Kingsford 2-Pack 20-lb (40-lb Total) Charcoal Briquettes, limit is 2. ^_^

That's 10 times worse than what happened to me. How do they live with themselves?!

Haha, wow, that was pretty bad. Pretty smart, though. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought of doing things like that in the past.

I called the store this morning and told the manager what happened, and he said as soon as he can get his hands on another headset he'll exchange them. He also said "I'll do something else to make your life easier." I wonder what he means by that.....................

actually bought something inside a best buy, so ashamed.

I'm not sure how to respond to that. I think you need to take a bath in near-boiling water to clean yourself, but I don't know how to scrub the filth off your soul from entering that house of evil.

They let you return stuff without a receipt?

People that eat food while in the grocery store. They figure anything that is eaten before they reach the checkout stand they don't have to pay for.
