Hey look another paper mache wedge :awe:

No, seriously, I dig it, but cars like this are more function than form and don't really fit in to a "most beautiful car" comparison. Every car like this looks the same, a aerodynamic wedge with a lightweight skin made out of 1 mil of paper.

Ferrari gets it right almost every time, form AND function in perfect harmony. But Lamborghini, Saleen, McLaren, etc, use the same tired cookie cutter aerodynamic wedge formula. With very good reason of course, but "most beautiful car" isn't exactly the goal with the latter ;)
I understand what you mean, but I think that the Aventador looks like pure awesome.

I mean look at those lines..

The Aventador's lines remind me of a bull in the ring, with its muscles bulging and rippling just under the skin.

And I just looked up the name and it turns out the car is named after a bull... Wow, they got it exactly right.

The vast majority of Lamborghini road cars have names tied to bullfighting. The company's founder was rather obsessed with it.

The Deusenberg Model J is still the classiest thing on four wheels. Not mass produced mind you but they still churned out enough to qualify.

I dunno, I've watched a LOT of top gear episodes, and maybe it's not the "coolest" today, and it's a bit more "simple" and not quite as frilly as what we have nowadays, but I think the Jag E type looks to be the prettiest car I've ever seen.

I think I agree with the Ferrari 250 California. That car is so beautiful.

For whatever reason I find the 1968-72 Nissan Skyline to be just gorgeous:

edit: Not referring to looks, which are subjective. The engineering critique of the AWD... thats a unique opinion so far as I can see.

Any time this comes up, Ferrari has to be at the top of the list and for me it's hard to choose just one. I've always felt the 288GTO was right there at the top:

I think the F355 has to be in the running as well. It isnt as aggressive -looking as some of the newer ones but I think it's just about perfect. It has a serious presence when its in person rather than in a photo.

You know what, I spoke too soon about the AWD system. I'm not knowledgeable enough about how it works to make an informed judgment. The Top Gear piece about the FF implied that using a second gearbox for the front wheels (instead of running a driveshaft under the engine) was solely to allow the engine to sit lower, but that it led to all sorts of limitations (such as the front wheels only ever being able to take 20% of the power, and none of it once you get to the higher gears). But in the end, it seems like that's not too big a deal since it's a sports car, not an off roader, and having a strong rear bias is the best way to preserve sports car handling. And it's not like Top Gear is exactly an authority on car engineering issues.

I still stand by the back end thing though. I guess it's practical but it reminds me too much of the BMW Z3 coupe. The front end is take it or leave it, not that different from other Ferraris. Maybe a bit too "smiley" for me.
