What's the memory foam go to brand these days?

I don't want to revisit that 10,000 post thread from years ago, so any advice would be great!

We had a cheapy memory foam mattress that gave out on us (sag plus doesn't really shape to our body anymore) after about 3 years. Can't really complain because we paid $300, but I don't want to deal with chucking a mattress every few years. What's a good, affordable but not cheap brand to go with? Also Latex vs. memory foam- what's the consensus?

I own a Latex pillow and its amazing. As for memory foam beds, many like the ones Costco sell. I wanted a Latex mattress, but the cheapest I liked was $1500.

$300 and you're chucking it after 3 years, or $1500 for a tempurpedic with a 15 year replacement warranty.
You'd be crazy to keep buying those few hundred dollar cheapies, although I guess a fresh new bed every 3 years wouldn't be the worst thing.

I just don't like dealing with getting them up and down stairs, so I agree with you. Though I hope there's a middle ground. Maybe $5-800 for 8 years? 😉

Costco's Novaform gel top foam mattress has supposedly very good customer reviews. I have one coming in a couple of weeks. If all else fails, at least I have the peace of mind with the 90 day return policy.

I recently completed my purchase of a memory foam mattress. I got most of my information from this website:

http://www.themattressunderground.com/

I suggest reading through their general articles, and going through some of their forums. If you're really unsure, you can post there and get some very valuable feedback from the guy who runs the website.

In the end, I ended up getting a component bed from the online distributor Rocky Mountain Mattresses.

Latex is on another level over memory foam in terms of comfort & durability, for pillows and mattresses.

It's pricier, but worth every extra penny for it's longer life span.

I cant agree more on how good Latex are. I wont use any other pillows.

Both of those come out to $100/year so they are even on that scale 😀

Make sure you are aware that guests to your house may have a latex allergy. Speaking from experience. There are hypoallergenic latex mattresses now. I'd be sure to ask. Liability can be a bitch, and Latex allergies are very wide spread.

My Latex pillow is both Hypoallergenic and anti-microbial.

Question about latex - does it work like memory foam in that a it could be layered with other foams? There's an ok priced latex mattress out there that's 3" of latex plus 7 inches of "support foam." Reviews are fine but people tend to review items a week into ownership instead of after living with it for a while.

On that note - does latex and memory foam mix well? I may go for a novaform because I like costco's warranty, would adding a latex foam topper be beneficial or kinda cancel out the benefits of each other?

It mainly depends on your weight and density and whoever is with you in bed.

If you spoon your wife all night, that weight will sink in one spot. If you sleep alone, then not a problem. Horses for courses with your habits.

Best thing to do is find a local shop that sells latex mattresses and memory foam. Go try it out with your wife. They should help you find the right mix.

The main difference is the way Latex reacts, it springs back instantly, as where memory foams goes slowly. I couldn't buy a mattress online, I have to go test them.
