whats the maximum hdd size an ata66 (via apollo pro) can support?

I've looked everywhere for the answer!!! Via, Asus, Anandtech, etc. All they tell me is that it supports ATA6 but it doesn't say anything about HDD size. I'm looking particularly at the Asus p3V4x. I'm hoping I can stick my Maxtor 40gig in there... Still want to know the maximum size though....

PLEASE, someone let me know. 😛

Depends on the BIOS.

You need version 1006 or above to support up to 128GB (binary size) / 137GB (decimal size).

In fact I did, but all it said was that AT133 can support 138 gigs and above. Doesn't necessarily answer my question specifically. 😉

Okay sounds good, but google search seems that 1006 is beta only. Any idea on what bios 1005 can handle? I'm possibly looking to stick up to an 80gb even in here. 😛

I recommend using the 1006 Beta BIOS. Beta BIOSes for ASUS boards are safe for the most part.

EOL boards, such as the P3V4X, are only given beta BIOSes when any updates are made. Very rarely do they reach a final status, so you need Beta BIOSes for the latest updates and support for End-Of-Life boards.
