I'll answer honestly... my wife and I owe about $500 on a credit card right now. It will take another month or two to pay off.

There have been times we have owed several... SEVERAL thousand dollars but we have taken care of the debt.

Your logic fails. People in this thread are telling the truth. People who have never paid interest are more inclined to click on the thread and share. Not to brag, but because most people in debt are not very excited to share that.

CC companies take 3%.
Merchants raise prices 3%.
CC pays back between 1-2% on average.

You huge dicked folks rake in hundreds while the moron credit card companies pay you to use their card cause after all, you're awesome.

Well, if those merchants would give me a 2%-5% discount for cash, I'd use cash. Since they don't, I'll take the 2%-5% credit card rebate.

How many giant TV's, $2000 laptops, $1000 digicams, or $5000 vacations to Europe would be sold if people had to pay cash? Not too many, that's for sure. The merchants don't cry about paying that 3%.

Totally agree.

I've had a CC for 5 years now and have never had to pay interest on them, or anything else for that matter. I'm a debt free grad student! We exist, it's true! Scholarhips + Fellowships FTW

nope, lose.

If I pay in cash and a store screws me, I'm screwed.

CC? Chargeback, CC eats it or gets it from the business.

Don't have to carry around hundreds in cash with a CC.

Can view every penny I have spent and where with a CC.

Hell, I would pay 5% for all that convenience. Bottom line, CCs are the norm and here to stay, they are built in to the prices nowadays.

Oh and to answer the OP I have paid around $50 I think. Maybe $100 or so, only when I forgot about a bill or accidentally did a cash advance with the CC instead of withdrawl from the ATM with the debit card.

Yeah it takes a lot for someone to willingly share that they owe a lot of money.

I owe a few hundred and it's steadily declining. Haven't used any of my credit cards for about two months and at my student income it will probably take two or three more months.
