What's the longest you've gone on a machine w/out reinstalling the OS?

Hi spyordie007. I don't know what your problem is. Have a nice day.

>There are only thousands of threads here that suggest the exact opposite.
I have read thousands of threads here, over many years. I don't see threads that suggest the opposite. Such a thread would be unlikely, wouldn't it? People write about the problems they have, with XP or anything else. Other than my opinion about XPs maintainablity by end users, do you have anything about the particulars I mention that you disagree with?

For instance, how do you, personally, track down registry errors?

I don't think that I've ever made it past 6 months. Next time, I am definitely ghosting an image of the drive when I am done. It takes a good day or two of using XP before I have it set up just as I like it.

Start a thread asking people which OS they prefer, Win98 or WinXP.
What do you think the result will be?

The longest I have gone without reinstalling the OS, is probably 4 years. That was with win 98

one day...I opened up the restore cd...and I was like....hmmmm...what does this do? doh!

restored back to original state....

Then decided to go with xp.

My HP-UX 9000 10.2 server has been running for about 6 years 24x7. We put in a new hard drive every year just because. Had to swap out one SCSI card and three or four tape drives in that time period.

Well, I guess technically it would be 3 years with Win2K...but I installed that on top of Win98 (2 years) w/out reformatting...so I'm gonna say 5 years 😛

ive got a computer at work that i use daily and has been crunching seti for me for years that is the original windows nt 4 install that was done on 11/15/97. been running production 24/7 for the past 3 years and been rebooted less than 10 times within that time 🙂 best installation of an OS ive ever seen!

three different machines and running XP 2 years straight on one, 18 months on another and 20 months on the third all with SP2 installed no issues and only a few freezes at that. I also have a Windows ME that has been running for three years straight. I hate Windows ME but since it only does word processing I let my Aunt live with it. I have to say that XP has been a dream come true for me and I have had so little problems with them that I am still pinching myself after dealing with Dos/Win 3.1/95/98 and especially ME

Windows 2000 Pro
4 years it only is rebooted for SPs and some updates.
It was my main gaming rig until last year.
