Whats the longest you can leave Prime95 running?

Basically, I left my PC running Prime95 yesterday. In the hops that Id be back from my girlfreinds today, but unfortunately somethings come up, and I may not be able to get back to mine till tomorrow. My question is, is it safe for Prime95 to be running longer then 24 hours? As in 30+ hours?

You can run any program for any length of time without hardware damage.

Except maybe some harddrive intensive program that leads to harddrive failure over the years due to overusage.

Prime95 will definatly not hurt anything.... unless your CPU is overheating and you don't have a temperature shutdown feature enabled on your board.. :evil:

Correct. Processors are designed to process. Prime95 just keeps a processor good and busy. Some processors, such as in server environments might never get a break in their lives.

I've had prime running for 40+ hours, you should be fine.

just think about using one of those distributed computing networks, if you leave for a week then yuor computer is processing pretty much nonstop for a week. So long as temperatures are fine there shouldn't be a big problem. I'm sure that constantly switching transistors will probably eventually wear them down, but we are talking about years, not a few hours. Thats whats so good about solid state devices, they don't wear the samne way mechanical devices do, so using them continuously is fine. The thing that would lieky die first is you HD if it is used alot, but thats becasue its mechanical.

What do you think about running Prime 95 for 24 hours right after you build your rig, but before you OC it to make sure that it is running well before you try and tweek it?

Ok, just an update! Been running for around 48 hours now and temps are stable and not a single error on either core!

I used to run Prime95 as a DC client 24/7 for years (with occasional reboots). The longest I've run Prime on a CPU is about 4 years. At that point the CPU wasn't very useful to me anymore, but still ran overclocked/overvolted perfectly fine.

I still have the CPU, as it was my best percentage (50%) overclock ever. PII 350 @ 525 MHz.
