When AT&T Broadband Internet broke off of @Home to host their own customers on their own networks, shiat hit the fawking fan, hardcore. Subs were on hold six hours to get to a Tier1 tech (customer service) for the two minutes it takes to do Tier1's job and 98% of them had to be transfered to Tier2 (the REAL tech support) which took waiting on hold another 6 hours.

I was working in Tier2 that day. That entire week was the fawking week from HELL. The network was SO hosed.

I spent 3 hours on hold back when my family first got our PackardBell compy. I'm sure many of you remember PB was notorious for asstacular support services, and since this was when I was about 14 and not quite l33t yet I didn't know where else to turn. Unfortunately this was also in the days before we had speakerphones, so I had to jerry-rig it by taping a microphone to the speaker on the headset and running it through the stereo.

Send them a certified letter cancelling your membership. Get a receipt of mailing from the USPS. If they try to charge you use that to take 'em to court.

P.S. put everything you want to cancel later on AmEx. I've found that it's a cold day in Hell when AmEx won't continue to dispute a charge for you until such time as you tell them to stop.

10:10am... I've been on hold for 25 minutes so far. I swear, if I get "disconnected" or freaking "transferred", I'm going to be FURIOUS.

Do you guys act rude once you actually reach a human being? It's not their fault (heck, maybe it is, those fvckers who purposely leave you on hold), but it's hard to stay calm when you're so frustrated.

I'm usually rude, yes. Why? Because they work for a bloodsucking leech of a company. I hope that my overwhelming unpleasantness will lead them to pursue a more satisfying career. Like walking behind a circus parade shoveling up the elephant dung.

I've had the best luck by "accidently" calling another department in a company whose lines weren't as busy, then when they transfer the call to the right dept, you get in a different queue that has almost no hold time.

*snicker*

My buddy was part of a group of 80 or so that were getting laid off one day. That day, they were transfering supervisor-requests to the local IHOP manager.

Cancelling it because I never use it, and it's month-to-month ($50 for fiance, $25 for me).

Talking to someone now.

About 1 hour and 30 minutes, congrats... i'd officially be upset long before this.

I've waited 45 minutes and I thought that was absolutely absurd. I sit and watched TV until they picked up.

BALLYS TOTAL FITNESS SUCKS DONKEY BALLS
This is true.

The longest I've ever waited on hold was with Qwest DSL. My DSL service had been down for a couple of months, and I was fighting to have them fix it. They kept charging me for the service ($65/mo.) but would never attempt to fix their problem (everything was fine on my end). On one call, I spent 2 hours on hold waiting for one department, only to be told that they don't handle "that" problem, then transferred to another department to wait another 2 hours on hold, to be told that I need to go back to the first department for "that" problem....
Whereupon I hung up the phone, called (then) @Home cable, signed up, called Verizon and got my SO her own cell phone, then called back Qwest and cancelled all my services with them, including my home phone. That same year, Qwest stock began a 2 year-long decline from approx. $60/share to just over $1/share and it looked like they might go under. I was very disappointed when they didn't (they are now at $3.60/share).

OMG, you want shady practices? Join 24 hour fitness! They're the shadiest sons of b|tches known to man. Apparently they don't understand the word "cancel". Once you give them a credit card number, consider cancelling it once you quit the gym because you'll be charged until you complain.

I called to verify that my account was cancelled and yet, they still keep billing me.

Ballys misrepresents their product as a month-to-month plan when in fact it is an installment contract.
For example, it's not $40 bucks a month, it's $1300 financed over 3 years at 7%. And they report to the credit bureaus. Ballys has been busted on more than one occassion for not including a Federal Truth-in-Lending Disclosure in their sign-up packages (because then people would know that it's an installment loan and not just a monthly membership).

It's a shame to find out how these businesses stay in business. I think gyms, in general, try and scam people because so many people will fall for it.

Tomato, after reading through a few of those posts in ballyssucks i hope you get your contract canceled. Those people are still having problems and having credit collection agencies calling them.

Why not drive down there and cancel in person. That way, you know it's done.

Because as she said in her initial post, she can't.
