Well, the last actual road trip I took was about 3500 miles round trip with three of my highschool buddies. We headed out from SE Michigan, towards Estes Park, CO (north of Denver, adjacent to Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park), stopped off at Omaha for half a day and another smaller town for half a day just outside of the CO border. After staying on the east side of the park for a few days, we headed for the west side (across that high pass, I think it's called Trail Ridge Road or something). After staying there for a couple days we headed down to Durango/Cortez, CO (right around Mesa Verde Nat'l Park) and stayed there for a couple days. Then we headed back to SE Michigan with a stop or two along the way to check stuff out. Total time was a little under two weeks.
Little while before that I made a quick trip over to the middle of NY from SE Michigan to pick up some horses flown in from the Netherlands

that was cool (for my sister though, she works with horses a lot) - about 1000 miles round trip. Headed out one afternoon and came back the next evening (had to stay overnight because the US quarantine station operates regular 9 to 5 hours).
And before that I went on a bunch of different family road trips across the country through a bunch of different states and to both the Atlantic and Pacific (although I believe on seperate trips, heh - but with the same van, which seemed kinda cool

), the longest one was probably on the order of 5000 to 6000 miles, they usually lasted two to three weeks. I remember one where we had some mechanical problems with our van and it was still under warranty, but by time we would be able to get back home it would be out of warranty. So, we called up the dealership or whoever to set up the repair while we were still out, heh.
The coolest road trip(s) I've heard about or seen of are
this one and similar Pan American Highway road trips. Talk about a road trip - 28,400 miles... ONE WAY, lol. They all loaded up in some VW vans and headed out, looks like pretty fun stuff. I thought this comment on that page was humorous:
"The total planned route kilometers are 45,728, or 28,414 miles. Of course our route may vary depending on road conditions, weather, and
political coups." - And I was worred about being late for breakfast food at the next town.
